Castration is the word, or neutering.

You MUST get your cat neutered - because at the moment he's out there mating with any females he can get his paws on. You're helping add to the overpopulation of unwanted cats, which is very irresponsible. Please don't let him out any more until he's been castrated.

You also need to get his weight problem sorted out, as you know. The vet can help you there. They will ask you what you're feeding your cat and how much, and help you sort out how much you should be feeding him based on the weight he's supposed to be. He may need a diet change because many commercial foods are so fatty cats just can't lose weight on them, unless they eat a tiny tiny amount in which case they'd be hungry all the time. You need a good quality food.

As for his general health - yearly trips to the vet for check ups are a good idea, as is vaccination and regular deflea and worming. Finding a good quality food is essential.

He will also be more prone to weight gain after he's been neutered because neutering slows down the metabolism. Please discuss all this with your vet - and remember, no more going out for him until his testicles are gone!!

Keeping cats healthy is quite simple.
Vacc - yearly, also consider FIV vacc if he will be going outside.
Worming every 3 months, flea treatment monthly.
If he is prone to putting on weight put him on a good qualiity light diet, such as hills science diet light.
Getting them castrated is a very good idea. You will find they will be alot happier and will not want to wander.
If you need any more advice i could go on forever. I work in a vet clinic.
