My mother-in-law just put down a beautiful hardwood floor in her hallway, but she painted the walls a really bright teal or turquoise (Not quite sure the exact color.) I want to help her with some kind of trim or border and long "runner" rugs that can pull it all together and not just leave you thinking "oh,those walls sure are blue!" Can anyone help me with a color scheme or a mention a website that might be of help? Thanks.

I am not an interior designer, so I don't know how to describe the wood floor, but I'll try. It is sort of a light brown, dark brown natural looking swirl. Laminate. It's actually a cool, funky design.

Also, what kind of a boarder could I do around the tops and/or bottoms of the walls, if any? What about around doorways?

For trim I like a glossy black or glossy white with teal. A glossy mediuim to dark brown might also look nice and help tie the floor into the design.
For rug runners or area rugs I like to stick with a colors that is the same value level as the floor-this keeps the floor looking open. But I would look for textural varitey.
I would stay away from complimentary colors like oranges because they will fight the teal for focus.

I would pair it with a orange-red color and black and white accents. Funky, fun & contemporary! Maybe leave out the border (that could get busy with such bright colors), use a simple rug in the orange-red color with lots of texture & hang Black and white photos in nice glossy black frames. It would be a great contrast against the teal wall! If there is room a black laquered console table with a clear glass lamp would look great!
Good Luck!

A few great accent colors for a bright teal are: buttercream, antique white (light) or sepia. If you are going to have a rug, the rug should pull all of the colors that you are using. However, its hard for me to tell you which colors would be best for the rug since I don't know the color of the hardwood floors.

since teal is so bright, you dont want to add much more "color"...think neutrals- but DARK!
Black and/or chocolate brown with ivory would be BEAUTIFUL!
She could do some nice pictures that have a LITTLE of the blue in it but with a really thick brown/black frame...
Or do thick frames with family pictures in black & white/ sepia tones...
Then maybe a nice foyer/entry table (like the skinny ones that go up against a wall but dont take up much room) and do a lamp and floral on it with a couple of books, etc.
It could actually be really nice. Just tone it down with a darker neutral and simple pieces.

If you want it to be simple you could tyr a tan creamish color. If you want to go bolder then you can try maybe a deep organe not bright or a violet.
