its really scary, my little sisters, age 3, 6 and 8 watch television all day, thats like all they do. my 6 year old sister got picture books for christmas, an she promply threw them in the trash. they dont ask for bedtimes stories, they want to watch sprout, they dont read or look at books, or even play with their dolls. they've never played on their swingset, and theyve never made a snow man or jumped in a pile of leaves, or played tag. they dont play pretend, and ive never seen a sign of an imagination from any of them. i think this situation is so scary, but my mother is so busy, she jus lets the tv babysit them for 6 hours on up each day, in fact, i dont know that its ever off. what can i do bout this?

shut it off.. even if they re having a fit.. at least they are interactingt with you .. yea probably a little on the negative side.tv withdrawl.. ;). but the tv will not be on.. as a mom i know how easy it can be to just let them sit there and vegitate all day .. espcieally when you are busy .. but that is way to long for very young people to be sitting there .. so as a sister /mom /adult i would just shut it off.. pull the plug from the wall .. what ever it takes to make them motivated,., and if they do start saying they wanna watch what ever shows they like.. have them draw about it .. talk about what they like about those shows. for starters.. eventually they will get pass that they didnt watch tv for that amount of time.. and hopefully each day they can get a little less tv time.. and so on .. untl they start to be creative with the time they arent allowed to watch tv .. they are kids they will eventually come up with something to do.. im sure there are activities where you live they can be a part of.that are free ... if you arent sure there is always the chamber of commerce in most towns that have information on events that are scheduled for kids in all age groups.. i hope this helps some..
Good luck to you and your sisters

I would talk to their mom/your mom about unplugging the television for a while, and basically forcing imaginitive play. I am sorry to say for a while, that's what I had to do for my daughter. I DID read to her, and often she still asks for bed time stories, but she just HAD to have the tv on. It only took about 2-3 weeks for her to begin to prefer pretend play to television.

*gasp*
hey, when it's real late at night, make sure that everyone is asleep, and dress up in a black suit, and throw away your own television. I can't beleive I'm saying this, but they need it for their own good. Don't worry Joey, if they have no imagination....well that's just crazy. CRAZY, CRAZY, CRAZY. EVERY kid NEEDS an imagentation, even if it's Dudley, **from Harry Potter** lolz...but he doesn't...but their not bullys are they??? *pokey, poke* just as long as they ain't bullys, then I guess their okay....but their must be something wrong with them...~best of luck to you~ =]

easy if you're the parent: get rid of the tv and play with the kids.

harder since you're not. suggest to your mom she put the tv in a closet for a month. do something with them. read to them. take them to the park. etc. suggest your mom get a babysitter or have another family member play with them or put them in after-school activities or have them have playdates.

wow.. that is strange. you should talk to them about what could happen if they continue watching tv all day long.... ask them to go outside for a little.. if they dont do that you should take them to a doctor

i think that if you played a game with them, they'd stop watching tv!whenever,i am with my neices and nephews, they stop what they're doing and run to me so that i can play with them!i usually play monopoly or some game and they love it!kids want attention, babe, and they love it when a parent or older brother plays games with them!
