you cant call a Muslim a kafir. and Muslims are not suppose to judge who is Muslim and who is not and name them kafir, only Allah (sbhanah wa tala) will judge people.

Abu Zarr reported that the Holy Prophet said: No man accuses another man of being a sinner, or of being a kafir, but it reflects back on him if the other is not as he called him.''

(Bukhari, Book of Ethics; Book 78, ch. 44)

``Ibn Umar related that the Holy Prophet said: If a Muslim calls another kafir, then if he is a kafir let it be so; otherwise, he [the caller] is himself a kafir.''

(Abu Dawud, Book of Sunna,

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim

Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah

A Muslim should always seek to think the best of his brothers and sisters in Islam and should not resort to calling names. It is forbidden to backbite a person and saying someone is a poor Muslim is a sin, UNLESS that person is really doing things that are forbidden in Islam and you want to warn someone who is about to go into a business deal or ask for a woman in marriage or some similar situation. It is not forbidden to tell the truth about someone in order to prevent another person from being taken advantage of. For instance, if you know a man hits his female relatives you are supposed to tell the family of anyone he is considering marrying so they can make sure they don't marry off one of their daughters to an abusive man. If you know someone has a criminal record for stealing you must mention it to a prospective employer. This should be done honestly and not going to extremes or exaggerating - just the facts.

I would almost never consider a situation where I would accuse another Muslim of being a kaafir. This is the most serious accusation a person can make, and if you accuse someone of being a kaafir and he is not, then that accusation falls back on YOU. Even if a person is doing very sinful things, only Allah knows what is in his heart and it is simply better for us to avoid using this word. And Allah knows best.

Fi Aman Allah,

Nancy Umm Abdel Hamid

You say poor excuse as if there is a good excuse for abusive punishment. What is a "sin nature" anyway?

actually you can make a statement like this when you know that person's circumstances, here are some examples:

- i think i don't have to introduce salman rushdie to you.. when someone attacks Islam/Allah (SWT) / or the Prophets (SAWS) then he is obviously a non-muslim

- same applies when someone abandon the prayers (i think only Hanafee madhab says he is considered muslim but will not get the same rights etc, correct me pls if i am wrong)

- so when you know that someone deliberately does not pray, openly attacks the religion then you can call him a non-muslim

- even the scholars stated these issues before and they often put the takfeer on certain ppl like they said ibn arabi (big deviant sufi in the past) was a non-muslim because he stated lies in his books and shirk

no one has the right to judge anyone as only Allah knows everything and by the will of Allah no one knows what is in the heart of any person except him.
you can not call anyone bad not even if they are not Muslim cause Allah is all forgiving and can accept anyone, we will only know after death

It is clearly mentioned in Quran not to call people with bad names. (not even with bad nick names)
how can calling a muslim "Kafir" is right, where, the no muslim himlsef knows whether he / she will be fortunate enough to live whole life and die with kalima.

yes, i believe we better avoid calling another muslim kaafir even if their actions are of non-muslims. Because Allah is the best judge, the best one to know the innerself of anyone.

Rest Allah knows the best~!

Yes, you shouldn't until and unless he says something REALLY REALLY WRONG about Allah,Quran or Muhammad (p.b.u.h.)

It's ugly. Using that type of language toward anyone is really bad. I hate that word. I don't know if it's a sin or not, but regardless, it's not a good thing to be talking that way.

Pull this Muslim to the side and correct him/her. Don't dog him/her infront of another person. Allah (SWT) says in the Qur'an to be gentle with each other.

Hope this helps, insha'Allah.
