Ok I got braces today at 9:30 and it was sooo easy! They just take out spacers if you got any and replace it with metal bands thay don't hurt. They clean your teeth and stretch it with this lip stretcher thing and then dry your teeth. Then they glue the brackets on your teeth and put the wire on then the o rings (the color on your braces) Ok I have my list here of what you cant eat: Ice, hard candy, bubble gum (they told me you can't have sugar free either) raw carrots ( you can cook them or cut them real smal) apples (cook or cut) corn on the cob (cut off) hard chips or pretzels, and popcorn kernels. They don't hurt for me and I have been having them on for a while (hours) just drink water when you get home because the drying creates white stuff and I just brushed my teeth (NO WHITENING TOOTHPASTE!!!) and drank water and not talk and it isn't there any more. I ate rice and chicken today after I got it on! It may be different for people so dont just bite into a chicken wing! Also eat a lot before you get there because you will be hungry and wear chapstick because of the lip stretcher.

I got a bag that had a interproximal brush (gets under wires) toothbrush, non- whitening toothpaste, floss and floss threaders (they will tell you how to brush and floss), this rinse thing, and wax!

God Bless! Don't be scared!

Youll be fine! They tell you not to eat hard things or apples and stuff so you dont break your wire. But mine never came off. Some people have more trouble than others. I never had any probs. The only time i couldnt eat what i wanted was when i got my braces tightened and my mouth was sore. You will be fine it will just take some getting use too. Ur orthodontist will also give you this lil food cleaner that u can stick up in the braces so u can clean the food out of your braces. Gum sometimes gets stuck on it so u may have to pull it off.

I've been there and I was scared too. There's nothing to be afraid of. Your teeth will be sore for a few days until you get used to the braces. This is natural. For those few days, you should avoid eating anything that you have to bite into (apples for example). Try sticking to soft foods like soup and/or homemade sandwiches.

Also, keep floss handy. The food that you eat will get stuck in the braces no matter how hard you try to avoid it.

I had to have 4 teeth pulled @ once when I had braces. I thought that was the scariest part. It is going to be more of a nuisance than a scare. You will have a constant headache from the tightening and you will probably lose weight because you cant eat the same way.

Try not be scared. It isn't so bad. I had them years ago. More like 20 years ago....and they have improved a lot since then. They were not too bad for me. I couldn't have caramels or chew gum. Until you get used to them you may want to stick with softer foods. Ones that you don't have to chew a lot to eat. You'll be fine though. A lot of people have had braces and they are well worth the effort. I got TONS of compliments on my smile for my senior pictures.

Good luck.

Don't be afraid. I had them too, and after about a week you get used to them. You can even chew gum =)
I Found bubblicious was the best because it was chewy but stayed in one piece and almost never got stuck. However, Big League Chew was a major mistake. Don't even try. Same with taffy. Corn on the cob was a hassle. Other than that though, you find ways to keep eating what you like. Good luck with your braces and please don't worry

There is absolutely nothing to be scared of.
Yeah sure it hurts for about a week.
But it's definetly not unbearable pain.
You just cannot eat certain foods and you have to be careful not to bite down on your own teeth or rub them the wrong way.
And put some wax on pointy stuff at an early point to avoid sores in your mouth.
You'll do fine :)

They aren't so scary I got them when I was 8 and I'm getting them again [the orthodontist said i would probably need them twice]

at first they hurt a lot but you get use to them over time

just dont move the cable around with your tongue because it might pop out and that hurts a lot

when they put the spacers in it really hurts to eat about anything. I didn't eat for about a week, but when you actually get the braces in you can eat about anything. The only bad part is it gets stuck in your braces.

You can't eat really hard things, like peanut brittle or chew ice cubes. Also you can't eat very sticky things such as toffee. Corn on the cob needs to be cut off the cob before you eat it. Braces will not affect your diet a whole lot. I had them for three years.
