Jesus drank wine, so I hardly think drinking could be considered a sin ... even by biblical standards.

Hey good question. The bible doesn't say drinking is horrible but does have some warnings... (Proverbs 20:1; 31:4,6; Luke 1:15). However, Scripture does not necessarily forbid a Christian from drinking beer, wine, or any other drink containing alcohol. In fact, some Scriptures discuss alcohol in positive terms. Ecclesiastes 9:7 instructs “drink wine with a merry heart.” Psalm 104:14-15 states that God gives wine “that makes glad the heart of men.” Amos 9:14 discusses drinking wine from your own vineyard as a sign of God’s blessing. Isaiah 55:11 encourages “yes, come buy wine and milk…”

What God commands Christians regarding alcohol is to avoid drunkenness (Ephesians 5:18). The Bible condemns drunkenness and its effects (Proverbs 23:29-35). Christians are also commanded to not allow their bodies to be “mastered” by anything (1 Corinthians 6:12; 2 Peter 2:19). Drinking alcohol in excess is undeniably addictive. Scripture also forbids a Christian from doing anything that might offend other Christians or might encourage them to sin against their conscience (1 Corinthians 8:9-13). In light of these principles, it would be extremely difficult for any Christian to say he is drinking alcohol to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).

Not sure either is a "sin" against God. There is another category called "Theologically Drunk" which I had been taught was a sin. To be theologically drunk means that you don't know what you are doing, and will not remember what you did when you are no longer drunk. The issue being that you could somehow blame your drunkeness for actions committed, and not your free will, and then the things you did would not be sins. Therefore, to enter that state of drunkeness, even if you did nothing wrong while in that state was considered a sin. The bIble talks about the evils of drunkeness / debauchery, but the definitions are either missing or not complete.

I have never read in Scripture where it is a sin to drink hard liquor, but to get drunk.

Look at some examples of a couple of drunk situations:

Genesis 9:18-23
Ham's father Noah lay there naked after becoming drunk - Ham was severely cursed for this.

Genesis 19:30-38
Lot gets drunk and sleeps with his daughters and gets each pregnant. They both give birth to sons that become enemies of God's people Moabites - Ammonites.

1 Samuel 25:36-44
Nabal threw a party and became very drunk after disrespecting King David . . . God struck Nabal to death.

Esther 1:10-22
King Xerxes got so drunk and arrogant that he told his wife the Queen to come out naked in front of his men guest.

Isaiah 56:9-12
Isaiah gives an analogy of drunken Shepard's that get eaten by the wild animals.
-----
I don't think that drinking hard liquor is a sin, but I do think that getting drunk should be avoided as it usually causes some type of severe hurt.

May God Bless You!

When they ran out of wine at a wedding feast, Jesus turned water into wine and the people at the wedding feast said it was the best wine that had been served.

Drinking is not a sin. Becomming a drunkard whose life is controlled by alcohol is.

You can drink both wine and strong drink. Being drunk is forbidden. You should not, however, drink when going to church, temple, etc. (Leviticus 10:9; Numbers 28:7; Romans 13:13; Galatians 5:21)

Wine was and still is allowed to be consumed in moderation by the God Yahweh for nutrition, maintain good health and disease prevention purposes in the modern human body. It was part of Yahweh's food laws which was called the drink offering that accompanied the Israelites daily meals served in the Tabernacle and then the Temples. Evidently Yahweh knew that hard liquor and beer is unhealthy for humans to consume or else He would have listed them along with wine.

Jesus first miracle was to turn water into wine. He attended a wedding that had wine being served. It is however a sin to be drunk.

Galatians 5:17-25
For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.

19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Darlin, if you think all those Biblical wine drinkers stopped at one glass...no way!
The Wedding at Cana...the flippin WINE ran out! Jesus had to make MORE!!!
And he didn't go over to anybody and put that person in a mortal sin drunk tank!
Everybody was human back then...do you know how MUCH has been deleted from the Bible by good ole Constantine and his Council of Nicea? Or by good ole King James, telling his scribes what he DIDN'T want in the Bible...the King James 'version'...yeah, it was HIS version, all right!!

as you say, the bible says that some wine is acceptable. So I would say being drunk is a sin.
