Since you say that there were no real symptoms, other than sleeping more than usual, it was probably a congenital problem. Possibly a heart attack, stroke, or aneurysm.
If he was eating less, throwing up, and losing weight it would probably be an illness (FIP, Felv, etc.).
I am sorry for the loss of your cat. He had a good home for the 4 years that you had him and I'm sure he was happy there.

You can take him to a vet and ask for a necropsy, which is what an autopsy is called when it is performed on an animal. I would be blown away and shattered, and I would definitely want to know what happened. But if you don't find out from a vet, I really doubt that anyone will ever be able to tell you.

I am so sorry this happened. If you can, please do take him to the vet, so you will know. This will haunt you otherwise.

Probably nothing having to do with an infection or an illness, your cat most likely suffered from a coronary defect and what was for all intents and purposes a "Heart Attack".

Really stinks when that happens.

I am so sorry! You should take him to the vet to find out what happened. Pretty Kitty is right though. It sounds like he may have had a heart attack. He may have had a congenital heart condition.

I am very sorry to hear about your cat. The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I never did find out what happened to my cat, but it was a very sad day for me.

I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty. We have no way of knowing what happened to him without medical advice. Take your kitty to the vet and have them perform an autopsy to find out the cause of death.

She could have a blockage of a few variety? crystal in her kidneys? Get that 2nd opinion you owe it on your fur babie. shop us as much as date additionally.

I'm in agreement with Sweetie, heart attack, stroke, aneuryism (sp?) all just happen with signs that are hard to pick up before the fatality.
Sorry to hear it hun, prayers are with you and your kitty from me and my kitties.
