You just don't notice them. They constantly have other countries military coming and training at our bases here in the states. Guess they either don't leave post that often or when they do, they are in civilian clothing so you won't really notice them and they fit right in with Americans. They just don't come and stay for years at a time usually only about 4 months or so, enough for training.

Guess then things like RimPac don't count where numerous countries from the Pacific including Japan, Korea, Australia, Canada, Chile, etc... come and do mock battles every few years. Then there is the Canadian military that is up at a US Base in Alaska & in a few other places. Then there is the foreign ships from Spain, Chile, China, Japan, Australia and so forth that visit numerous ports. There is the German Air base in Texas, and so on. There is schooling as well at numerous bases for a variety of reasons.

Great question. I asked a question just like that not too long ago. I never got a really good answer to it either. Only guess is that the bases are from old wars such as WW1,WW2, and Korea. But I woder how it would make the US feel if Saudi Arabia had a military base here. I dont think that would go over to well.

Other countries have little-to-no need to station troops in the US.

There are some, usually on some sort of training or learning exchange program. I believe on at least one occasion, Australian troops were involved on an exercise in Hawaii. But otherwise, there's really no need to station units so far away home.

Besides, I believe the Germans, Italians, British and Dutch already make use of a NATO air base in Canada.

because the U.S has never been occupied by a foreign power... when the U.S occupies a country they never actually leave it... We still have bases in Germany... They really haven't been much of a problem since those World Wars we learn about it school but we keep bases there... It makes it easier for us to get to other countries whether is be peace keeping or humanitarian, or War because we have a base stationed close by. Also the US is sort of isolated over here... It takes most longer for us to get to the hot spots so we just have bases near by. It also makes us harder to attack at home by the militaries of other nations because you would have to travel past other U.S bases to get here and hope you don't get shot down by fighter jets that could deploy from all over the world... and lets not for get the one's stationed in the middle of the ocean.

Actually there are military here for training from other countries. They are just not here in significant numbers and usually you only see officers from our NATO allies like UK, Canada, and Australia all of which I have worked closely with. During the early 1970s there were many pilots that came here for training from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran and Kuwait.

Most countries don't have a large standing military or a large financial military budget so they don't deploy their forces or have bases outside their own countries.

Actually thats incorrect. In San Antonio, there are officers from all over Latin America and many European countries who come to learn our profession of arms and of course to learn English. In New Mexico, there is a small German Air Force Unit, Up until recently, also in new mexico, there was a Singaporean Air Force unit in New Mexico. And of course, the Canadian Military is well integrated with us in the NORAD structure in Colorado. I think the difference you see is that you dont see massive populations of foreign militaries here like you would see a large american presence in say Germany or Korea.

If you lived near a Military Training facility you would see foreign students from other military organizations. However there are no permanent bases in the US for any other countries military. We have permanent bases in Korea, Japan, Okinawa, Germany, Italy, Kuwait, Bahrain, and many others. We deploy our forces to more countries than any other military on earth.

I am a Russian. We have bases in Tajikistan, Khazistan, Ukraine (Naval base) and Georgia and Abkhazia(this last two is a peace keeping mission). I believe there is also a Naval/Air base in Vietnam. With some Tu-95's and a place for subs to have some leave.

They may be some bases which I can not remember as well.

But USA is not the only one with foregin military bases. Granted, they are by far the leader in them.

Visit Nellis Air Base in Nevada. We train all of the NATO pilots there. Try Holloman Air Base in New Mexico. The German Luftwaffe has their own headquarters there where the German Flag is flown from the flag post in front of that building.
I lived in Japan for eight years. After I left I later served as the escort officer for a Japanese admiral when his squadron of warships paid a port call in San Francisco.
The difference between us and every other nation is that we believe in the concept of force projection beyond our shores.
