Yes I was referring to wars not battles. I don't think Russia counts as a Western power, its in eastern Europe.

DinoDino, you are referring to japans ocupation of the Phillipines, they also occupied Guam during WW 2, but they went down in defeat rather easily to the USA. You are counting getting crushed by America in WW 2 when it mattered a military victory by japan? hahaha...

They beat the Russians in 1905 and took over the French, Dutch and British colonies in East Asia and threw the US out of the Phillipines in the early part of WWII
Dan, you phrased the question as "military victories" not wars and I answered correctly. Don't give me s#!T because you are too stupid to know how to write a question that conveys your meaning properly.

Up until their defeat at the Battle of Midway in the sea and the Battle of Milne Bay on land, the Japanese pretty much won almost everything
Victories against Britain and Commonwealth
- Battle of Malaya
- Battle of Singapore
- Battle of Hong Kong
- Battle of Burma
Victories against the United States
- Air raid on Pearl Harbor
- Fall of the Philippines
- Battle of Guam
- Battle of Wake Island
Victories against the Netherlands
- Invasion of the Dutch East Indies
Victories against combined Naval force
- Battle of the Java Sea
---
It's also a little-known fact that Japan was on the allied side during the First World War from early on. They committed 800,000 personnel and played a mostly Naval and support role, losing around 400 men in the war.

No, they have not. They defeated the Russians in the Sino-Russian war of 1904 and fought China on and off for years. They won many battles in WWII but eventually lost the war. In terms of wars, they have never defeated a western power. The closest they have come to that was the Russians.

I think they would consider Pearl Harbor a military victory. Or were you referring to wars, not battles?

NO.....the closest I think it came was sinking the Russian Navy not once, but twice in a row within hours of engagement.
