I'm a 14 year old boy, and I think I'm depressed. I'm not really sure though. I'm not that sure anymore if I ever was any different, even though I had far more happy memories years ago. Sometimes, when I imagine telling my friends about it, I start to cry, and I feel a sense of freedom. I wouldn't tell my mummy of my daddy though, because my mummy would just ask why, and I wouldn't be able to explain, because I don't even know what's wrong either, and I can't see her taking it seriously, and I don't really talk to my daddy (Mummy and Daddy are still together. I can't see them helping at all. But even though I wish I could tell my friends, I don't think I could, because one of them says that she's depressed, and anytime that anyone is upset or anything like that, she has to steal the spotlight. What should I do to make my life better?

Is there anybody else in your family you COULD talk to?

An aunt/uncle/grandparent?

If you are in UK, try childline, it's a confidential freephone number!

hey
i know what your going through
and im still in the situation
my mom and dad arent really the "paying attention type"

well sometimes they are
but not to me
i'm the middle child in the family and things arent easy for me
i never get the attention and my two sisters always steal the spotlight from me

i usually am called the "emo" child
because im depressed all the time
but i think you really should tell your friends
and it doesnt matter if you cry or not
it matters if they care for you while you are crying
and help you through it to MAKE your life better

i know my life and yours arent going to cross any soon
and i know that our lives are quite similar
but i really think you should tell someone about it
it will make you feel better
and not make it all bottled up inside

because then im sure you'll go a little kookoo in the head if you dont tell anyone
you feel like you wont beable to tell anyone anything
and thats not so awesome
trust me
i know

and it would be better if you told your friends
because they know you more

like everyone says
"i have these friends because god wanted to apologize for family."

Hey Buddy! I wish I could help you! You just need to to get yourself a good book to read, go for a walk , or find something you enjoy doing to get your mind off of your troubles for awhile, Kids now have so much more peer pressure then when I was young..And most of all don't forget to PRAY!!! Jesus is always there to listen to your problems any time of the day or night. Also try talking to your Mummy as she might be like most of us parents and not realize how much you need to talk, Im sure she cares. I wish you the best!!

Bob truth... welcome to life even adults feel the feelings you are experiencing. In times like these for me it is best to think of someone who has it a lot worse than I do and realize damn my life is not that bad. Example imagine being 14 and dying of Leukemia what would your outlook be then? Happiness is available every day... easier said than done I know but consider this: If you were blind before today, and you woke up today with the ability to see you would call it a miracle and be overjoyed with all that you could see. Well you already have the power of this amazing miracle of sight just one more of many everyday reasons to be happy. God Bless

I strongly suggest you talk to a school councelor if you have one, tell him or her how you feel. I know it's hard but the more you get off of chest the better you will feel and the more they can help you, otherwise you might become more and more depressed and who know what that might lead to. If you don't have a councelor just tell you mom and dad that you are depressed and see if they will set up an appointment for you with a councelor outside of school. Councelors deal with this kind of stuff that you are feeling and believe me THEY can give you the tools to help you with how you feel. Don't hold back, like I said, spill your beans as far as what you are feeling, they don't judge you, and as soon as you do it each time you will feel more comfortable and won't hold back. they get to the bottom of how and why you feel the way you do. Good luck!

well first of all ill tell u the symptoms cause u need to find out if u are depressed or just fink u are. the symptoms of depression are:
*loss of interest in daily activities
*feeling sad, helpless or hopeless
*crying frequently
*sleeping too much or having trouble sleeping
*lack of concentration
*gaining or loosing weight
*feeling tired
*being restless
*low self esteem
*thoughts of death e.g. suicide!!

now if you notice that at least four or five things above are happening to you then you should seek help.
there are alot of other people you could talk to instead of your friends or parents.
you could talk to:
@ a connexions person
@ a teacher
@ your doctor
@ your nurse
@ any other relative e.g. cousin, auntie or uncle
@ frank-who gives advice for just about anything

try to think positively and try to find the root of your problem. you may be stressed out due to an exam or something. even if you cannot see the problem and youve talked to someone about it and concluded that you may not be depressed and still feel 'blue'. then you should get it out of your mind that u may be depressed.
like i said you may just be stressed or anxious.

I know how bad it hurts to be hurting and not have anyone who understands.

If you can try and get some L-tyrosine. Its natural. Or some St. Johns wort. Both help with depression. You can buy them at Wal-Mart.

Watch what you eat. Stay away from caffeine if you can. It just makes it worse.

You need to tell your parents somehow. Talk to your counselor and have them talk to your parents.

Dont spend time with other depressed people. That just makes it worse. Find happy people and spend time with them as much as you can. Also, I know this is crazy but practice smiling. They say that making yourself smile releases chemicals that actually boost your mood.

And if you need to talk please contact me. Ive been dealing with depression and other things for years.

Depression is awful. I suffer from depression and know how dark it can get.
If you feel you have no one to vent to and are seeking support try talking to the school counselor. It's free and a perfect place to start and to vent.

If you truly feel like you're depressed tell the school counselor and he/she can assist you in finding answers and getting help.

If you need help with depression your parents should be more than willing to get help and treatment for you.

well... for a start talking about it really would make u feel better and although you might cry at first you'll eventually begin to feel more comfortable and talking about the way you feel will become much easier. maybe if you write it all down or write a letter to a trusted adult you'll be able to get the help you need
