I wouldn't compare american "gangs" to that of other countries....such as S.Africa and Columbia and what not.........i think america has more thugs who like to run in packs...in it for the money and easy lifestyle as opposed to political gain or oppression.

if you use a very, and i mean VERY, loose definition of the word gang then i'd disagree with most people saying the US doesn't have the worst gang problem. US govt is the absolute worst gang in the history of the world right now murdering in the hundreds of thousands and pillaging in the trillions.
but in the proper use of the word gang, people in those other countries are not gangs. those are wars over religions, tribes and ethnicities, NOT simple gangs.
someone did mention MS-13 and they are a bad gang but people fail to realize their influence in the USA. they are effectively moving away from the concept of a typical gang and into more of a mafia or criminal organization recruiting members not from the streets but from the colleges and universities. MS-13 was already ruthless and dangerous. With a smarter membership they are going to become even more dangerous.
so in the strict sense of the word gang, the US does have the worst problems. no other nation has as many gangs and as much senseless gang violence.
don't mistake criminal organizations for gangs. people shouldn't disrespect a religion, tribe, or ethnicity by comparing them to a gang.
i think a gang begins to take a different more elevated form when they have a defined purpose, history, or identity. gangs don't have any of that.

No. It's really bad in El Salvador, where MS-13 is based...
And there are parts of the world (Darfur, for example) where the gangs ARE the government, and there is no rule of law.

Judging by the news coming from Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, and Iraq, I'd say we have it pretty light here.
