John, son of Zebedee is who I would choose to be. I like that he became known as the disciple whom Jesus loved. He loved Jesus so openly and devotedly. I think I admire him because he is so unlike me. I have had trouble trusting people and loving openly because of experiences in childhood. Yet, I think my essential nature was meant to be very affectionate.
I also admire the writings that John did that have benefited us who came after the early Christians. He lived a long, dedicated life as a believer and was the only Apostle who did not die a violent death as a martyr. I kind of like that too, because I hate pain.... It took another kind of faith to stick it out for so long; John lived on the Island of Patmos as a prisoner at hard labor, so it wasn't that he had it so easy, ya know!
Good question, Cayennesun! You know, people sometimes belittle believers in Jesus and think Christianity is so lame. But, all the Apostles and many others endured huge suffering and died violently because of their faith. If Christianity was so unbelievable, why would so many die for their faith? It had to be powerful and wonderful for so many to suffer so much for it!!!
Happy New Year! =)

I think, John.
It was John that Jesus ENTRUSTED HIS MOTHER WITH.
It was John that Jesus apparently had a VERY special LOVE for.
John's great LOVE for the Church was evidenced by his exhortations to the brethren to LOVE one another.
1 John 3:11 -- ...that WE SHOULD LOVE ONE ANOTHER. ... 14 WE KNOW that we have passed from death unto life, BECAUSE WE LOVE THE BRETHREN. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
John 19:26 -- When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, that HE LOVED, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
John 20:2 -- Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, that JESUS LOVED, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
John 21:7 -- Therefore that disciple that JESUS LOVED saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
John 21:20 -- Then Peter, turning about, seeth THE DISCIPLE that JESUS LOVED following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?
And it was he that wrote the only Book in the Bible which pronounces a blessing on those who hear it or read it.
Revelation 1:3 -- BLESSED IS HE THAT READETH, and THEY THAT HEAR the words of this prophecy, AND KEEP those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
I would LOVE to be grown up into His Image where He could entrust ME with that sort of blessing!

No question John. He wrote the gospels where love was the key thoughts. He never mentions his own name in his writings, so he is the most modest. He also lived the longest . He wrote the book of revelations on the isle of patmos at a very old age.

I'd be hesitant to choose or partner up with someone I don't really know the full background of that person. I like the idea of Jesus giving his mother to Thomas to take care of (I guess Joseph must have died by then), so Jesus must have trusted Thomas explicitly. All I know about Thomas was that he was the youngest of the apostles....and that Thomas was originally the doubting Thomas, but I've never doubted.

I'd probably be Simon Peter. He's a very inspirational figure for me. Like me, he often went charging into situations without proper preparation, and allowed his passionate views to occasionally overcome common sense. In other words, he was flawed, just as I am, but God was able to use him anyway.

Andrew: because every time you hear from him or see him in the Bible he is leading someone to the Lord.
