I'm 16, and going on a long car trip with a 9, 6, and 4yr old. Any ideas of things to keep them busy?
My brother has a PSP and I have a DS, so I figured I'd bring those. There's a DVD player in the car, but we don't have any new movies and the kids will only sit still for so long.

I guess I could bring coloring books. Maybe some snacks like Goldfish or something. Ummm ...

See, the thing is we're going to be doing most of our driving during the day. So I need ideas of stuff to keep them not-annoying!! xD

Also, we leave tomorrow (I pretty much just found out) so there's no time to go out and buy anything ...

And if you have any ideas for kid songs, tell me because I'm planning to make some CDs. The kids love songs like Who Let The Dogs Out and stuff like that.

Looks like you've given this a lot of thought. That's great! You have some great ideas yourself already - you must be a really smart kid. :)

Make a list of car games that you can all play, like "punch-bug" when you see a VW Beetle car, and the song 99 bottles of beer on the wall (though that might be annoying LOL). I bet if you do a search online for car games for kids you'll find a bunch of new ideas that you can try.

Have a great trip!

There is a game that my family plays while traveling in the car. It is the ABC Game. Everyone must find a word (on a street sign, a building, anywhere around them) starting with the letter A, each person must find a different word. Then move on to the letter B. Whomever gets to the letter Z first wins. This game can go on for hours as there are not many words that you will see along the roadside started with Q, U, or Z.

Try taking along some coloring pages that you can print off the internet. Take a board game along. Use your imagination what would you want to do while riding on a long trip in the car.

You could play a game of counting cars( you each pick a color car and see who gets the most), abc game(Find letters a-z on signs or buildings first one to z wins), Play I'm thinking of a person(20 questions and they have to guess who your thinking about...only yes or no questions), Bring some books to read, you can bring some snacks: Fruit snacks, crackers, raisins, pretzels; Make the CD have a variety of songs put some little kids songs off sesame street on there so you can all sing for fun and be goofy!

kids can be entertained by just about anything. coloring books, snacks, travel games (yunno, the games that are magnetized so the pieces stay put, if you have any), even string keeps them busy. And as far as I can tell, kids don't really care if the movie is new or not. Mostly what I do is put on my headphones, turn on my mp3 player or CD player (loud enough that I can't hear them too much, but not loud enough to annoy any adults that might be in the car) and turn on my DS. If you don't have a CD player or mp3 player, demand the front seat and focus on your game. they'll leave you alone most of the time.

If you have a breakfast tray, bring that with you and use it to play cards or tic tac toe, etc. ..that way you have something sturdy to lean on. DVDs are good, make up Mad Libs or play word games: pick a category and someone starts. The next person has to say something in that category that starts with the last letter of the word before it. Play "I Spy" with things you see as you drive by. Good luck! You seem very thoughtful.

Sounds like you already have alot of good ideas. One thing I like to do in the car is make a list of all 50 states. Cross off each state when you see a license plate from that state. You'd be surprised at the ones you will find.

Would be great if they can see a movie, also, music (this could drive you insane though) some games. Or you can prepare with a good story or some competition of knowledge (like asking stuff of their favorite hobbies). In between you can give them prizes for how well they do. Good luck!
