I don't believe that God and science are mutually separate. I believe that a closer look into Genesis reveals that creation may really have been re-creation. The Bible has many references of battles with Satan prior to man's presence. Our earth, no doubt, is billions of years old - our present habitation, merely a few thousand.
As for the 'where is God' comments by respondants, remember that God was also not 'there' when his only son died, and God was also not 'there' when Adam & Eve ate the forbidden fruit. Do you think that this somehow escaped God's grasp? He chose not to be there. God doesn't want automotons doing His Will on command - He wants free spirits to do His Will because we love Him and want to do it.
You all have parents - Would they prefer to beat you into submission all of the time or have you 'do the right thing' because that's what they believe, how they taught you and how they want you to be?
Don't mistake religion for belief. Man has interpreted the Word to suit his demeanour. Catholics, Baptists, Jehovah Witness all interpret The Bible slightly different and therefore hold certain 'doctrines' to be true while others do not. When asked, Jesus said of the most important commandment - "Love God" and seconded it with "Love each other".
With this in mind how should any of us slur differences in religious outlooks as long as God is held in the forefront - because evn God has said -"where two or three are gathered in my name - I too shall be there"

Why would he go to the trouble of creating everything else but then delegate writing the instruction manual to men? That doesnt make much sense does it? Men have obviously created multiple versions of a garbled, self contradictory document that does nothing whatsoever to persuade me of the existence of a superior being, quite the opposite in fact.
Even if it were true why would he choose such awful allegories? Exactly what was he trying to say when he committed mass murder by drowning at the time of the flood? What is the "allegory" about selling your daughters into sexual slavery all about? Wouldnt an omnipotent god have been able to come with fables that had a more enduring relevance rather than being completely odious in this day and age?

You're waiting for answers from Fundamental Literalists who take the symbolism in the Bible literally.
But yes, God is all powerful and capable of doing anything, including creating the basis for what we call the Laws of Physics. You're suggesting that all believers in God think that science is worthless or incorrect, and that's simply not true. The Bible is full of symbolism and parables, including how Jesus taught his followers "back in the day." Stories which were told to help try to explain moral teachings and idealism. The people of that time had no concept of "billions of years" or evolution or the Big Bang or anything such as what we've come to rely on as facts based on science. If you'd told them that there were dinosaurs they'd have looked at you like you were looney tunes. If you'd told them that there was a theory that the Earth was created from a Big Bang, they'd probably have agreed with you and credited God. Men were scientific back then, in the sense that they sought truth and valued truth and fact that could be proven... but they were also spiritual.
Einstein: "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."

Remember we are thinking of God in the Christian terms. God is our Father, remember that. Maybe he thinks he is funny-after all, he invented humor. But I think he wants us to figure it out for ourselves. Remember, learning is not the destination, it's the journey. I don't know if you have kids, but it makes a father really proud to see them applying themselves.
If you want a more technical explanation, you can compare it to the whole idea of the subconscious. Some say the subconscious is the part of the brain we can't consciously use (duh!). They say this is the part most open to God, because we cannot block it to Him. Dreams are him talking to us, giving us a little insight into ourselves. True, he could just tell us, but then we have to think: would we believe Him?
Remember the bible is written by man. But man is divinely inspired. Inspired is the key word here.
God is omnipotent. He can do anything. True, some say omnipotence is contradictory. It's the question of whether he create a rock so heavy he couldn't lift it. That's thinking of God as one person: Christians see him as three. Remember that. Can't understand it? Didn't think you would. You refuse to see that you will never be able to. If you think otherwise, you're a fool. You refer to us as "scholars" who avoid the question. God is a mystery, and that's one of the things that makes him God. God is omnipresent. If he was completely in the known, there'd be none of him in the unknown, and therefore, not omnipresent. You see, presence refers to thoughts and states as well as space and time.

God is so powerful and so great that He wrote that book called the Bible so regardless what era of history read it, that all could relate to it. All have and still are relating to it in their era of history.
Try writing that book, where little is allegory and much is literal, yet it pertains to every given year since creation. He writes that nothing is new under the sun, yet man continually calls things new.
What does 4 billion years old look like??? What do you see that puts this timeline on the earth?
I know the One who lived back then, do you?

The Sun by definition and by scientific observation provides heat and light. If it did not, it would not be a Sun.
Likewise, God, though omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent can't and won't be anything but God. He will not violate His laws, He will not be the purveyor of light and darkness or truth and lies.
God's character is perfect, just, holy, loving, merciful, gracious, and righteousness and He will never do anything to contradict who He is.

if God was all powerful, and good he would not choose to use a sick and demented method of watching creation kill itself for millions of years to come to a final product...Also if God was or is all powerful, why would he choose to hide what he truly means to all but the elite or learned of creation in order that they might deceive the rest of creation...it is not that he is in capable of using allegory as there is obviously allegory and poetry in some parts of the Bible, but it is in the sections of the Bible with the rest of the poetry such as song of Solomon, Psalms and Proverbs (did you know the Bible is divided into different sections and not by Chronology), it is the fact that God as intelligent as He is would contradict his own nature and use something as ridiculous as allegory for the story of creation and law
p.s. before you call all Christians stupid or that we are unlearned why don't you consider reading my along with several other learned Christian responses to questions such as this

theoretically God is all powerful, all capable follows all powerful by definition. Powerful follows "God" by definition. Now when you say God said this and God said that - you get into a new ball game. Who said God said this and Who said God said that? Humans -that's who. Humans putting words into God's mouth. If you want to know what God said - go to God directly and get it from the horse's mouth. Otherwise it's humans making things up.

an excellant point made by your goodself. you have actually proved a very controversial issue debated by the believers in God and the non-believers in God.
i boldly accept your statement that God is not all powerful and is not all capable. in fact, he cant even lift a pea. but how do you explain that God according to religions created the world/universe in a matter of seconds - 7 days, depending on your religious beliefs?
that is the most glaring question that stands out in almost any circumstance. the creation of the universe that us atheists would rather stick to is the big bang theory, creationalism, and a few other very disputed and unproven methods. i boldly say unproven because they are all theories, and not laws or principles and so on. i would owe you my apology if anyone else has anything to say otherwise.
In my belief, im not a person of religion, neither am i NOT a man of God. so to me, i do not worry about disapproving the God of the other religions and or using sarcasm to insult them, but rather ask the more intellectual and pressing question as to why this universe was created instead of wasting time asking how it was created. because who/whatever which created it did not want to be found. didn't leave the recipe behind too did He/It?
we have this world to us and uninterferred by any supreme presence. we are to find a way as to ensure the survival of ourselves amongwith the other forms of life on it. along the way, we find ways to better our understanding of this world and universe. but more importantly, understand ourselves first. realize who we are first. realize the basic truths that needs to be uncovered.
God to my understanding, seems to be totally guilt free of the happenings on earth and how it is being destroyed by some and being saved by others. as i said, he is not all powerful and all capable. he is bound by the laws of space, time, and karmic laws. he cannot interfere with anything worldly except for its creation.(let us assume the creation part was his doings because God is an equally plausible theory compared to the big bang.)
we were meant to live through this life, given this magnificent mind, which is the most powerful instrument known, to develope it and to teach the knowledge we aquire to the future generations to ensure the proper survival of earth and its lively and lifeless belongings. how ever would it change anyones life if God indeed did create the universe. or if he did'nt? probably rejoicing for some and disappointment to others. but nothing more, for he will never reveal Himself until you have found an acceptable way to find him or reveal yourself to him. that is how science and atheism dictates it logic doesnt it? no is not he answer. scientifically,if you cant get desired results from an experiment, there are 2 logical conclusions. your assumptions or hypothesis is wrong, or human error, wrong conditions or an erraneous methodology. probably those in religion havent been doing it right. but as a spiritualist i would not say that the assumptions or bland facts put forth by atheist are dissmissable, and at the same time would i condemn the beliefs, faith and/or hypothesis of the religionists.probably the religionists aren't doing what they are supposed to be doing correctly.
let us atheists move on from scrutinizing unexplainable details from the scriptures of other religions, and concentrate more to the existance and meaning of life. we get nowhere dissing the crowds. but live a life worth following. and then let the people see belive and experience it for themselves.
PS: by the way, God does not have a physical/gross form(remember i said He cant get himself involved directly in our world?). he can by most inspire people through visions and enlightenment. which is how scriptures came to be. but it was clearly deformed and mutilated in contents and meaning as early as the "first few editions" of the compilation.
