DVD recorder software help?

I tried to install Nero 7 essentials that came with the recorder, but a message pops up saying " The version is not compatible, please update or install." What does this mean?

If you are installing on Vista... Nero 7 Essential is not compatible with that without a patch.

However, you didn't include much details, so I'm guessing here.
