I think that you should make a charitable donation in His name. Well-off families usually appreciate that sentiment more than flowers or cards.

A handwritten sympathy card, mailed to her; send flowers and attend the wake. If you can attend the funeral it would be nice, but it is not something anyone could reasonably find fault with you for missing.

Without looking into it, it sounds to me that the corporation, not you or your family -- or even your dad's estate, is liable for the lease. The primary reason to incorporate a business is to protect the business owner(s) from personal liability. That is, if the business fails (for instance, liabilities exceed assets), then the creditors (such as the landlord) cannot pursue payment from the business owner's personal assets (personal bank account, home, etc.). Therefore, it strikes me that while the business itself is tightly bound to your family (you are all VPs), your family is not liable for the lease, thought the business certainly is. To that extent, the business must pay off the lease before it pays any of the owners.

Any expression of sympathy would be ppreciated...attending the wake without attending the funeral is fine. Do what works for you.

It is fine to attend the wake and not the funeral, and be sure to send flowers.

Yes, that is acceptable. That is exactly what I would do, matter of fact. Just let them know how sorry you are and that is all that you can do.

if you are as close as you say.......work is worth missing to be there for them for the funeral. This is where your time is priceless.
