Well, ya know....the thing is this...
They really want to do what they believe is right.
They are not the only religious group to try to push out pagan based customs.
The problem that arises is, our modern day culture is so inundated with traditions that are based on the ancient ways of doing things.
Like wedding rings, like the flowers, like the cake...
All pagan.
So when the JW organization started trying to get rid of this stuff after Rutherford took it over, I don't think they ever had a clue what they were getting themselves into.
It's very interesting to look at what the originator of the JW religion was like.
They had Christmas, and had no problem with smoking or the cross. Heh, heh, there are pictures of their Bethel having a Christmas tree.
Those things were done away with, as I said, when "Judge" Rutherford took over.

Actually, Jehovah's Witnesses do not require any particular marriage ceremony. Generally, it is a secular government which requires some officiant to solemnize a wedding.

Jehovah's Witnesses recognize the importance of formalizing a marital union, rather than merely "living together".

As a global religion, the weddings of Jehovah's Witnesses generally reflect the traditions of the couple's ethnic or cultural heritage. Of course, practices involving superstition or which are inextricably linked with paganisms are avoided.

While the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses does not insist on being involved with a couple's wedding ceremony, a local congregation is generally delighted to be included in a couple's plans. There may be governmental restrictions on whether a particular minister may qualify to officiate, but typically any congregation elder can perform the service.

The minister who is asked to officiate will be able to answer the couple's questions about almost anything to do with arranging a godly wedding day, and will have good suggestions for maintaining chastity during the courtship.

Beyond the generalities of dignity and modesty that must befit any godly celebration, the officiating minister will likely explain that the only real tradition that applies globally among Jehovah's Witnesses is that they use a particular published wedding vow, when permitted by secular law. That vow is as follows:

“I —— take you —— to be my wedded (wife/husband), to love and to cherish (Bride: and deeply respect) in accordance with the divine law as set forth in the Holy Scriptures for Christian (wives/husbands), for as long as we both shall live together on earth according to God’s marital arrangement.”

Because marriage was essentially created in the Bible in the book of Genesis. Some of the traditions in marriage might be pagan, but Adam and Eve were essentially "married" by God.

Because they are inconsistent in their teachings. On the one hand, wedding rings are ok but birthday gifts are not; pinatas used to be banned, but now they are ok; even cameo and "squash blossom" jewelry is "pagan".

This continues in other hypocritical teachings - they are "no part of the world", but were a member of the UN (as an NGO) until caught out. Maybe you'd have to have been raised in the religion to understand what a glaring sin that was.

Because God brought Eve to Adam and married them himself. Marriage is an institution ordained by God.

Those customs that are pagan, like throwing rice, are avoided.

My niece who is Catholic ask if she could be married in the Kingdom Hall, because of the simplicity and bible counsel given at my daughters wedding.
