For past 3 years at work, my husband & i keep getting Christmas gifts of hard liquor, candy, more candy && lottery Tickets. We dont drink, are diabetic, so dont eat candy, & tix are never winners. What is best way to let people at work, (who do know we dont drink , are diabetic); know we would prefer as most friends spoken to, gift cards, etc; anything other than this constant hard liquor, candy. Comes point can no longer pass it on to others either. we both go out of way to personalize our gifts as to individual tastes, etc. HELP, overrun again with booze, candy.!!!!!

1.Maybe mention to your co-workers "That bottle of tequila [or whatever] was lovely. My brother-in-law [or whoever] enjoyed it a lot. We had to stay away ourselves-doctors orders!" Unless they're complete morons, they'll get the hint.
2. Drop hints through the year, as a reminder. I used to get chocolate from some of my co-workers. At a department pot luck last summer, I mentioned that I couldn't eat the brownies someone made because chocolate gives me migranes. This holiday, I didn't get any chocolate.
3. If all else fails, re-gift, or bring the stuff to a family party to share.

Send a thank you note back (along with the gift) to the gifter and say something along the lines of you appreciate the thought but neither of you drink and you are unable to eat the candy due to your diabetes, reiterate the thank you for your thoughtfulness. If the person isn't a jerk they will understand. Perhaps the following year they will send something else or nothing at all - a win-win for you either way! I would think that the givers either 1) aren't thinking about your drinking/eating habits when they purchase the gift or 2) don't know any better about your lifestyle...either way, let them know in a nice way and it will avoid any further aggravation!

I would be delighted if someone bought me something for Christmas if you don't want your booze or candy,I'll gladly take them! Nothing says a fun night like snickers and beer.
seriously,I would just drop hints through the year like some of the other people on here have said.Either that or stop being so nice with your own gift giving and start giving out booze and candy to your friends. As for the lottery tickets, maybe someday you will win.

Well, lottery tickets in my state benefit senior citizens & you never know when you will get a winning ticket, so I don't really see complaining about that. What do you get these people who are giving you these things?
Perhaps, you could give them back next year the gifts of candy & liquor you don't want.

You are complaining about getting something for Christmas?
Some people get nothing every year.
Maybe one of the lottery tickets will be a winner someday. I would love to get those for Christmas.
Give the gifts to your friends or family...or better yet, give the gifts back to the people that gave it to you, next year, and see if they notice.

Honestly, I don't think there's any more practical and effective way of letting them know about this other than actually telling them. But tell them in the middle of the year, after they've given you your presents and before they get new ones... that way it'll be easier. Also, try to drop hints about how you need gift cards here or there around the Christmas season.

You don't. It would hurt people's feelings if you don't accept it and weird if you try to explain your situation. Just accept it and then find another person at his work that would appreciate it more.
If you must let everyone know ....
Give all the people that give you booze - "fake" beer like O'Dools as their gift.
Everyone that gives you candy - you give them diabetic candy.
All the people that give you lottery tickets - you give them the fake "winning" tickets that you see on Funniest Home Videos.

Just tell them that the doctor says that you are diabetic and cannot have liquor and sweets.Let them decide what they want to use as a replacement. I'm sure most will understand.
