Okay, the short version - destination wedding, been planning it a long time but due to many unexpected complications, my fiance and I are now eloping instead. It almost seems like fate b/c it was what we wanted to do anyway, then changed our plans to include others, and then had to cancel our other plans. Our invitations even arrived late, so we want to change them to announcements instead. Here is the wording for our message in a bottle announcement, would love some feedback:

"Far away from snow and the cold winter wind’s howl, barefoot on the beach they will be excited for what is about to follow.
They knew it from the day they met that fate had played a role. They were just so right for each other, two halves destined to become one beloved soul.
Beside the ocean hand in hand, casting shadows amidst the tide, he will become her loving husband and she will forever be his bride.
"Bride" and "Groom" joyfully announce that they will be married at a private beach ceremony... etc."

The reason why our plans changed a few times - we wanted it to be casual, just us and our best friends; then family really wanted to be there so it turned into a destination wedding; then we had a couple of family emergencies, major surgeries, and my dad has to have triple bypass surgery right around the wedding. We cancelled the honeymoon, but still want to go and get married, as long as my dad's surgery is not that week. So... that's the long version. Everyone who was going knows what's goingon (less than 25 ppl), but are very disappointed. We still want to share it with them in a special way, and will have a casual summer party to celebrate, but wanted to at least use the invitations we paid for as the announcements. And people do want them ahead of time to know whether or not we are still getting married.
As for the "harsh" criticisms - go to craigslist with your attitude and rudeness, it is not necessary to be so insulting here. Have a little class ...

Don't announce ahead of time that you will be married, if you aren't inviting people. Send announcements AFTER you are married.
And eloping is running away in secret to get married. You are having a destination wedding, just not inviting other people.

simplicity is always key in communication-

Far away from snow and a winter wind's howl,
barefoot on the beach, excited for what's to follow,
From the day they met, fate played a role.
They were right for each other, two halves to become one soul.
Beside the ocean, shadows amidst the tide,
he becomes her loving husband, she forever his bride.

I like it except for "they will be excited for what is about to follow". It is a little too wordy and could be a bit more poetic. The rest is great though. Congrats and good luck.

I think that if I want bad poetry, I'll subscribe to college magazines. There is a formal format for formal announcements for a reason. Please save yourself embarrassment and use that format. I know that sounds harsh now, but in years to come when your relatives are teasing you about your cheesy wedding poem, you'll be glad you went with tradition.

I think it's nice. It sounds exactly like the kind of wedding I wanted but didn't have. Good for you for doing it *your* way!
