I presume you are talking about a wrist watch since I don't know what a hand watch would be.
The wrist on which a watch is worn is usually determined by whether the person is right or left handed. A right handed person would wear their watch on the left wrist and a left handed person would wear their watch on their right wrist.
The reason for this being that there would be a great deal more jarring and swinging around and possibility of damaging the watch if it were worn on the hand that a person uses most actively.

Thank you for bringing this up! I have seen so many people lately wearing their watches on the incorrect hand. So many right handed people have started wearing their watch on their right wrist and seem to have no idea what the proper etiquette for wearing a watch is!
A watch is properly worn on the wrist opposite of their dominant (writing) hand. If you are left handed, you should wear your watch on the right wrist. If you are right handed, you should wear your watch on left wrist.
There are a couple of reasons for this. Wearing your watch on the wrist opposite your dominant hand makes it easier to wind your watch up and take it on and off, and it keeps you from scratching up your watch on a table when writing or doing other activities with your dominant hand.

From what I understand, it goes on your "opposite" hand. So if you are right-handed, it goes on your left and vice-versa.
The rationale is that if you are doing something with your dominant hand, (writing, holding a glass, etc.) you can easily move your other hand to look at the watch. Whereas if you had the watch on your dominant hand, you would have to stop what you were doing in order to turn your hand to look at the watch.

It goes on your left if you are right handed and right if you are left handed. The reason for this is because you use your dominant hand more, so your watch is less likely to get scratched up on your non-dominant hand.

Traditionally it was worn on the left to allow you to easily wind it coz the new watches didn't tick forever like ours sometimes they used to stop and the wearer had to wind it. Today you can wear it on any hand although there are those that think that males should wear on the right while ladies should wear on the left. You decide where you prefer yours to be it is not bad to be unique.

Depends on what your dominant hand is. This is really more of a comfort thing, I believe. So left if your right-handed, right if your left-handed. Unless it feels better on the other one.

Depends on your dominant hand. Left wrist for right handed folk. Right for left handed folk. That's according to proper etiquette. I'm glad that, in this day and age, someone still cares about etiquette.

Doesn't matter if you're right or left handed. Your watch should go on you left hand.

It's a matter of personal preference...but I think most people wear it on the left, especially if they are right-handed

if you're right handed, the watch goes on your left wrist. left handed, it goes on your right wrist... the way to tell: when looking at the watch, the dial to turn and set it should be easily accessible from your prominent hand
