it is called a "mechanical" release. they should only be used with the addition of an "arrow loop" which is a small bow string loop attached to the bow string at the area where you nock the arrow. This protects the string from becoming frayed or breaking. The mechanical release is a dream to use, will enhance you enjoyment and your accuracy. I started archery hunting at age 9, when we drew a bow by using the old english method of 3 fingers on the string, or a two fingered draw. Believe me, I was amazed the first time I had my bow set up for a mechanical release and used one. I never changed back.

hi there
it is called a release aid, there are different types ,some you grip with your fingers like a knife handle, and release with your thumb. some strap to your wrist and have a trigger on them, they work well ,but should be used with a 2 prong rest,as the arrow is forced down instead of sideways as in finger pulling. good shooting.
