Go to a humane society, there are tons of cats that need to be rescued at the hs's in your area!!! Save a cat from being put to sleep because someone didn't care enough about it!

There are SO many cat rescues you shouldn't have any problem finding one.

Do a google search for 'cat rescue' and include the name of the city/town you're in. I bet at least 8 or 9 will come up immediately. We have at least 8 in Milwaukee, most of which are online. You can also look at Petfinder, those all need homes. And the Humane Society or Animal Shelter too as well as Animal Control.

I agree with the one post that said to think of a special needs cat. There are so many with diabetes that people are to old to treat or just don't want to take the time. There are at times blind, or disabled like 1 leg injured etc.
My cat became diabetic from feeding her dry food and canned food with grains, veggies and fruit. I love my girl and loved her to pieces before she got sick. But finding out how to treat her and getting her on the correct diet for all cats and learning how to do blood tests for blood sugars etc got my girl off insulin and just controlled by food and we are closer than ever. I would consider looking for a diabetic cat again when it comes time to look for another cat.
Consider it and look into what is available.
Good luck but be sure that Mom knows there will be vet bills for a healthy cat. If you get a diabetic cat felinediabetes.com can help you keep bills down to 2 vet visits a year. Might even find a diabetic cat needing a home through that group.

If it's OK with your mother consider a "special needs" cat. Many cats just need a little extra TLC but end up stuck in the shelters because nobody is willing to go to the trouble. Either way, talk to the shelter people about what you have to offer and they will help match you with the right cat. Good luck.

try petfinder.com. They have a ton of rescue places on file that are dying to find good homes for abandoned/abused cats.
