You don't. You either buy the 80GB, 60GB, or a 20Gb PS3. The 40GB PS3 does not play PS2 games.

If you have the 80GB PS3, you might have to update your firmware through system update or download PS2 system data off the Playstation Store, though I'm not entirely sure as I have a 60GB PS3, not 80GB PS3.

And if you have the 40GB PS3, then you can't play PS2 games on it.

If you have 80GB - under letter P in PS store. 20GB and 60GB don't need anything, 40GB can't play PS2 games at all.
