what if you do something that you don't intend to cause harm and yet discover it has or will. If you attempt to reverse the situation or make things better is that acceptable in 'karma'?

Karma = you reap what you sow = what goes around comes around.

Just as a butterfly flapping its wings can contribute to a windstorm, deeds can affect the condition of humankind, sometimes directly, sometimes indirectly. But this does not mean that one is predisposed to suffer as an individual, though he is not immune to the effects of his deeds either.

What is karma?Yes is a fact.
By a combination of the three modes of nature and under the control and purview of eternal time, there are activities, which are called karma. The cosmic manifestation is full of different activities. All living entities are engaged in different activities. The activities are being carried out from time immemorial, and we are suffering or enjoying the fruits of our activities. In every field of life we enjoy the results of our work, or we suffer the results. This is called karma. Normally is known as fate or destiny.
To answer your second question in Additional Details:
Karma can not be reversed, but can be changed and even can be stopped once for all. How? That is explain in Bhagavad gita.

Karma simply means this: The logical consequences of one's actions.

I think a Biblical analogy closer than the Matthew 7 quotation would be Jesus' statement in Matthew 26:52 to the effect that those who live by the sword die by the sword, and Galations 6:7, which says that whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Intention plays a role in the working out of karma, but it's important to acknowledge the role played by self-awareness, because it's easy to fool ourselves into thinking our intentions are good when in fact we are just rationalizing. Then the outcome is bad (and we deserved to have a bad outcome because not only were our actions poorly chosen but our intentions were selfish) and in our self-deluded state we conclude that life isn't fair because we believe we deserved better than we got.

The karma as such exists but if you limit yourself in perceiving it from the perspective of your present life it's very limiting and thus harder to grasp.

A person's karma is something that spans several earthly lives and thus it must be considered very seriously; because if you don't behave in this life you'll pay for it in another one.

Life on earth is all about progress and betterment; yet one life is not enough to learn all what one has to learn.

The several lives of a soul are cumulative and the only escape towards enlightenment is goodness.

FACT for a fact , I have seen it many times, what goes around comes around.
proof is that how do you justify people doing such horrible things & think they can get away with it? nobody gets way with anything....
do u think an intelligent universe would just say, oh that's ok, never mind, you just do what you like?
also bear in mind, that not everything earns us karma, good or bad, it;s the intention that counts, if you accidentally hit someone, you don't get karma becos you didn;t mean to but if are angry & you hit someone, u do becos you lost control...
it's very simple yet very complex & God knows everything.

karma don't mean nothing. it is made up. it is something people are supposed to think about when coosing to do write vs wrong. But the fact of the matter is it means nothing. Look at all the4 crooks who make millions of dollars and when they die they die wealthy and pass riches onto their family. Look at all the honest poor people who try to make it through life, and then have a kid with a debilitating illness that they do not have health insurance to pay for treatment. Life is not fair, and there is no such thing as karma. it is what it is

Fact.

One time, I found a cell phone on the ground and I called the last number that had called the phone. It turned out to be the phone owner's mother. So I told the lady I'd leave the phone with the Lost and Found and I did.

Two weeks later, I lost my cell phone in the same building. I realized a few hours later and went to the Lost and Found and there it was!

My friend lost her phone once and she called it and some ghetto ebonics-speaking woman answered it. And when my friend said, "Um, this is my phone" the crook hung up and didn't answer when my friend tried to call it back. This ghetto person could have found my phone, but she didn't. Someone honest did.

So I do believe in karmic retribution.

Karma manifests itself in ways that could be used as evidence, yes.

The "One thing lead to Another" Analogy.

However the true meaning of Karma could never be proved in a single lifetime.

Like Fate, but not Destiny.

p.s; to the guy asking why good things happen to bad people, that depends on whether you think those particular things are good or not.
