It's not unreasonable to expect people who come to a country to learn its principal language. English is very serviceable. You would replace it with an artificial monstrosity not native to anyone?

No, the US shouldn't invent a new language. English has been the First Language and it should stay that way.
If someone is a foreigner and they come to the U.S., they should learn English. America is a big melting pot of cultures, so it's not possible for Everyone to learn how to speak everyone else's language.
When you think about it, the U.S. is really one of the only places in the world were the people don't know more than one language. Most People that live in other countries can speak 2 or more languages. Most foriengers already know some English before they come to America. And a lot of people in India, Japan, and China know English already as well. English is more of a Universal Language because foreigners know that if they know English they can do almost anything they want and have success.
But if someone was to go to a different country, they should learn that country's first language.

Actually, the U.S. will not "invent" a language. No nation has ever "invented" a language. Languages are formed via a system of conscious and unconscious conventions. And, as more Latinos populate the U.S. in previously held Mexican territories, such as Arizona, California, Texas, New Mexico, etc. the language and cultures of these states will ultimately change. This, in turn, will change the language in the United States. The language that we currently speak will not exist in 150 years. It will be like our current society speaking middle English. Instead, the English language will adopt many of the Spanish words most commonly used in their culture. My theory is based upon the changes to the English language when the French invaded England; as a result, English consists of thousands of French words.

English SHOULD be the official and required language.
A new language would make things harder. As I always say, the constitution - the reason WHY all of these different races, religions, etc can live together freely - was written in English and we should honor it and be united by speaking it.
Nobody wants to learn Spanish because it's coddling the HIspanics.
HIspanics are being lazy and don't want to learn English - people are coddling THEM. The minorities are taking control.
The least you should do if you want to live in the US is learn English.
People should learn English. Simple as that.
If you give me a thumbsdown, you're probably Mexican.

Well, remember Esperanto? I think that when people have already learned a language between zero and 5-10 years of age, it is not reasonable to expect them to learn a new one and use it exclusively whilst dumping the one they have gotten used to. Otherwise Esperanto would have been more popular. Hell, we in America don't even want to adopt systems that make more sense like the metric system & degrees celsius! Anyway, it would be too difficult & costly & not even sensible to do so. There's nothing wrong with people having different languages. It's what helps makes life interesting.
Nobody wants to learn Spanish?! 90% of the people taking foreign languages in the U.S. take Spanish!!

When you immigrate to another country to live it is only right that you should learn the language of the country and conform to it's customs, to expect America to change and develop a new language would be disrespectful of all who have been born here and those that entered the country legally and learned English no matter how broken at least they took the time to learn and become American. I do not expect people from other places to forget the traditions of their native land but I do believe weather it's me immigrating to another country or someone coming here we owe it to the country of choice to learn the language of the country they chose to move to.....

People in countries around the world learn English so that they can operate in the global economy without ever coming to America. The national language is English. If that's a problem, don't come here! People immigrate to many countries for many reasons. This is not an isolated issue, as much as many would like us to think. No other country that I am aware of, will entertain such nonsense. The time has come for Americans to get over it! We need common sense to prevail here again! This oversensitivity to ever thing is pure ignorance! Grow up America!

Many of the hispanics here don't speak real Spanish either so even when you do learn it....it's still no good. Learn English.......as American citizens no one can possibly expect us to cater to each and every group or tribe from who knows where when they come here. There's simply too many to cater to each group.....learning English is the LEAST an immigrant can do in order to benefit from all this country has to offer....if it seriously is too much to ask.....then you don't belong here.

I don't think I agree. I believe the illegal aliens don't want to learn English, and they are demanding they be allowed to speak their native toung although that is actually not Spanish at all.
English is spoken all over the world, and more frequently than any other language. it is the language of Business and Science. Mexican Nationals may learn whatever they want to learn as long as they do not take one single penny from American Taxpayers.
