Well depends on the breed some breeds can be weaned at six weeks and u should wean pups 2-3 weeks before they r ready to go to new homes... Good luck!!

Generally, the mom will start to wean the pups at 4-5 weeks.

Hopefully this is a rescue dog - no respectable person would breed without knowing such basic information. If it's a rescue, you are awesome for cleaning up someone else's mess. : )

Mommy dog will start to wean them when the little razors start to come out in their mouth.

I have an 8 week old pup, by 4-5 weeks they have a mouthfull of needles you might call teeth.

With both Beagles & Labs I start the process at 28 days (4 weeks) by separating them from their mother during the day and putting them back with her at night. I will feed them puppy kibble mixed with warm water in a blender during the day. At 5 weeks I remove the litter from their mother permanently but keep the pups together as a litter and place them on a 4x a day feeding schedule. I start the introductions phase of socialization at this same time.

Around 4-5 weeks mom will start to wean them. All you have to do is offer "mush" to the pups... use some kibble soaked in warm water and mush it up.

Mom will gradually push the pups away more.. just offer more mush as they mature.

depending on the breed/size... you can start feeding softened (blenderized) high quality puppy kibble around now.

Its best to let the mother wean them naturally.. this does a couple of things:
Teaches them some socialization skills (mom snapping at pup for biting too hard)
Teaches them some bite inhibition (see above)
Allows the mother's milk to decrease naturally (less risk for mastitis)
