without looking at an x-ray a dentist could not tell you for sure if you need a "Root Canal". It is possible you just need a filling or something else. You need to go to the dentist because if it does not need one yet, it might in the future if you don't get it fixed now.

if your tooth is sensitive to hot/cold, causing throbbing pain, hard to bite down...things like that, you may need what is called a "root canal". A root canal is the removal of the pulp (the nerve) of the tooth. The process is really not all that painful, it is just long. Root canals sound far worse than what they actually are, many many people have had them done.
I suggest you talk to your doctor and have this problem solved right away, before it gets too infected and causes a lot more problems.
Good luck

It is called 'root canal' and now dentists can do this without any real pain. I had it done a while ago and felt very little pain. None during the treatment and only a little after -- like a headache -- and they gave me pills to fix that. It will probably hurt a LOT less than the pain you feel now.
Also, it may simply be a cavity that needs to be filled -- and THAT doesn't hurt at all!

You could have an abscessed tooth, in which case, the dentist would either do a root canal, or pull the entire tooth (based on the severity of the situation). If you continue on without seeing a dentist who can assess your tooth properly, your tooth could become infected, and will make you sick enough to appear as though you need to be taken to the emergency room. Please get checked as soon as possible, before further damage occurs.

You may well just need an ordinary filling. A root canal is a fairly long procedure and not undertaken lightly.
Having said that when I had one I was was tired that I fell asleep in the dentists chair while we were waiting for some of the filling to dry. So it can not be all that bad. Go and have a check up

The procedure is actually called a Root Canal Therapy, or RCT for short. The only way to tell what kind of problems you may be experiencing is to have your teeth examined by a Dentist and have some X-rays taken.

It would be root canal and it would just depend. Go to the denetist and he will tell you if you need one done or not. If the dentist does do a root canal he will give you pain relievers for during the procedure and normally they write out a script so that you are not in pain when you go home.

Have you been to the dentist? If the dentist recommends a root canal, don't worry about it. It's not painful (less painful than an abcess, if that's what's wrong with your tooth) and it will save your tooth.

Is it your teeth or gums that are painful? Do your gums bleed when you brush them?
If your teeth are sensitive try using a toothpaste for sensitive teeth and use a soft bristle brush and don't brush so hard. You can damage the enamel coating by over brushing and that will make your teeth sensitive.
If your gums are red and swollen and bleed when you brush them, then start flossing in between your teeth. This will cause them to bleed more and possibly hurt more in the beginning but it will allow them to start to heal. The redness is infection and the best antibiotic there is is blood. So by flossing and allowing the blood to flow you will cause the infection to heal and the gums to recover. It may take a little time but floss everyday no matter if it makes them bleed and they will soon heal and go back to pink and healthy.

I think you might be trying to say root canal? Anyways tho, my teeth hurt alot because they are week. I have a protective liner on them but I eat ice and dont use the best kind of toothpaste. I would suggest just lookin around at the store and finding one that says it will strengthen your teeth. Plus the dentist is expensive and time consuming. Best of luck.
