Just as an example, the Andromeda galaxy is two million light years from our galaxy, meaning its light takes that long to reach us, meaning we see the Andromeda galaxy as it existed two million years ago.

But -- this does not conform with the Bible.

My proposal is stimple: We can declare these astronomical distances false, and we will not allow any distances greater than 6,000 light years.
This will help astronomy to once again be in accordance with the Bible.
And thereby to be brought in line with the thinking of church folks.

Other scientific areas that need to be revised or recinded: Evolution, plate teconics, and radioactivity, etc. Little by little science can be revised.

What? Yes, perhaps geologists and others will object, but the advantages far outweigh their objections. The advantages are substantial.

Bringing science in line with the thinking of church folks, this alone will offer great benefits.

Are you people with me on this?

Well, now I'm getting thumbs down from church folks -- the very people with whom I was tying to ingratiate myself.

Dammit anyway.

Okay I'll admit it, the Bible stinks.

You have it backwards. The Bible needs to change, not science. I applaud the effort though.

Would you really read too much into bible, which includes words of God, but more importantly also include words of historians (who had no knowledge of science at that time), scribes, opinions of translators, written 200/300 years after Jesus, in a language that is not alive today, Hebrew/ Armaic.

Look at Islam- the Quran

It describes

Human Embryonic development
Mountains
Origin of the Universe- Big Bang
Cerebrum- brain
Separation of the seas and rivers
Internal waves deep in the ocean
Formation of clouds

and much more that modern science are just now able to prove. when i research more, I am amazed to find scienfitic facts talked about 1400 years back in quran. It can't be words of a man.

How exactly does the distance between stars not conform to the Bible? Ca you give me one science discovery that does not fit in the biblical record and tell me where it contradicts the Bible?

For example, evolution does not contradict the Bible. the Bile simply states that God made the various species. Evolution has not one shred of evidence that links species. There is no fossil record that links human to fish, just a theory that one species evolved from another.

As far as plate tectonics go, the story of a world flood actually supports the movement of continents.

I have the feeling that you neither know much of science or the Bible and just want to stir the religious pot.

Where in the Bible does it say that the Universe was created 6 thousand years ago? I think you need to carefully reread the first chapter of Genesis. To make your claim you would have to "read into" what the scriptures say.
I am a firm believer in the Bible. However, I know that the universe is BILLIONS of years old...hence the light from distant galaxies and such.

There were days(periods of time) that God developed the Earth with its incredible plant and animal life, in its' different stages. But before he did this, IN THE BEGINING, He created the heavens(universe) and the Earth, which when you think about it, is a part of that universe created in the begining. Much time apparantly passed between the initial creation of the universe and the time he turned his attention toward making our planet inhabitable.

So, accurate science and an accurate knowledge of the Bible do not conflict, rather, they harmonize with each other.

No you don't have to change science just say what it is a theory Until you actually travel at the speed of light and go to the Andromeda galaxy, it is just a theory and some ones opinion.

I can only presume you are kidding.

You presume that the universe is only 6000 years old, but this is not supported by the bible. Firstly this number is arrived at by counting generations, but some of the generations are significantly longer then the 40 years we use today. Second, when it comes to measuring time, time itself breaks down in Genesis. How long was that first day? You know, the one without a sun, moon or stars to reckon by.

Evolution interior the experience that it created and differentiated all species is fake. Take a contemporary college biology classification with documents at a discovering college (like the college of California, no longer college of hillbillies of arkansas) and that they'll coach you evolution won't be able to account of the form of species on the earth. radioactivity- i'm guessing you advise carbon courting etc... it quite is taken under consideration one of those incorrect thought to start with I dont comprehend why people think of they could date the earth by applying it. yet even assuming the earth is 4.5 billion years previous doesnt refute the claims interior the bible. The be conscious it quite is translated as Days could be greater advantageous translated as creative classes. Gods days arent like mans days the two so its risk-free to assume that 6 days wasnt quite six days. It grow to be 6 creative classes and that they could have stretched for thousands and thousands of years each and each. Why could God be difficulty to vacationing on the fee of light? The scriptures let us know that interior of each and each individuals is the spirit of God (or easy of christ) so he's already recent in you, you in simple terms could desire to call on Him. i assume which skill no shuttle in touch. yet although if He did shuttle, couldnt the writer of each thing circulate swifter than we are able to comprehend? Who cares approximately plate tectonics? constructive some christians have faith that the earth grow to be distinctive, yet revelation let us know the land interior the Americas grow to be the place the backyard of eden grow to be placed. It additionally seems exciting that there is historic hebrew (which grow to be dated to approximately 1000 years till now christ) inscribed on stones interior the recent mexico desolate tract. The inscriptions have been ultimately translated and are a replica of the ten commandments. Kinda exciting huh.

"Just as an example, the Andromeda galaxy is two million light years from our galaxy, meaning its light takes that long to reach us, meaning we see the Andromeda galaxy as it existed two million years ago."

Remember that light years are a measure of distance, not time. This is faulty logic, the kind you seem to embrace.

I'm a Christian, and I don't believe in bringing science into conformity with the Bible. If a proven scientific theory is in conflict with the Bible, then so be it. This is part of the problem with Biblical literalism. We shouldn't alter scientific research to conform with what we wish to believe; rather, we should allow it to speak for itself.

No- you could change everything to "conform" to others beliefs, but what is the point if the "facts" were changed to be accepted? Besides, many religions have different "bibles". Everyone thinks their's is the original: so which bible would scientists conform to?

Yeah 'revise' science, more like destroy logical answers for things i.e. we KNOW plate tectonics exist so how can you 'revise' a fact without destroying the whole FACT. The only way to 'revise' science is to say that logic itself makes no sense.
