I'm moving to a different country next year, Germany to be exact, can anyone out there give me advice on how to settle in a foreign land, and are there any people living in Germany willing to make a new friend?

You will go far by learning the language and learning about the customs. I lived in Germany when I was a kid from 1969 - 1972. The people were very nice and showed appreciation when we used the German language (even when we did badly). We met many life long friends while we were there.

Germany has a very strong cultural background.

I second the language thing. It will be hard but do it now. Second make sure you take things that will comfort you - familiar things. Third .. save lots of money .. the dollar sucks right now and the euro is high.
