i have the 80gb. I tried to connect it to my bt home hun but it says it needs an ethernet cable. is the wireless adapter built in? do you have to activate it somehow?

Yes, just go to the network settings in the crossbar menu, and select 'wireless' network. You should then follow the steps to set it up.

When ever you go to set up your internet connection, go to Wireless. When you go to the Wired Connection it will say that a Ethernet Cable is not connected if there isn't one plugged in.

All of the PS3's ever made except for the 20GB PS3 have the built in Wireless Adapter.

confident the forty 60 and 80GB all have wifi geared up in as for the variety it relies upon on your router. I actually have a rangemax instantaneous router in my room and my PS3 is approximately 35ft away and that i'm getting a 60% sign

80GB has it, just go to network settings and follow instructions.
