I thought the spanish word for 'and' is 'y'

but I have a spanish guitar (made in madrid) and it says
'Rodriguez e hijos'
(Rodriguez and sons)
Why is it 'e'? why isn't it 'y'?
Is it because it's hard to say it because it's the same sound after one another? Or is it Madrid dialect?
Please explain!

And = y / e
You use e before i sound
Examples
Germán e Inés
German e Hipocrátes
Peras e higos

What matters is not the actual letter you see, but the sound you hear. As H is silent, in HIJOS the first sound is i. Therefore you don't want two I sounds together (not in Spanish at least).

Because 'hijo' starts with the same sound as 'y' ("ee"), you need to change the 'y' to 'e' to make the difference between the two words noticeable.

It's not a dialect thing. It's the same in Spanish wherever you are from.

The Spanish word for "and" is "y", but you use "e" when it preceds a word that begins with "i". When you say "hijos", you ignore the "h" because it has no sound. In this case you use "e" instead of "y". It is all about the sound.

it's e because the letter after is an h. When this happens and you say "y hijos" the two run together so you change the "y" to an "e" to separate the two sounds.

Hope that helps!

thats because the H has no sound.... and the Y and the I have the same sound.
so...instead of the Y we use the E.
Example:
instead of say María, Ana y Ingrid
we say María, Ana e Ingrid

But it is not a dialect
Hope it helps you

You've got it! It's standard when the word following the 'y' begins with 'i' or 'hi'. Pedro e Isa fueron a la playa, etc.
