I am searching for information regarding a Harold (Harry) Elliott who lived in Chicago in 1930. I am trying to trace my father’s biological family. On the birth certificate for my dad it simply lists his name, age 21 at time of birth and he was from Chicago, IL. However, my grandmother filled it out so there may be some errors. I found an entry on the 1930 Census which lists a Harold Elliott as a roomer with wife Florence. He was around 22 at the time, and was reported to be a traveling salesman. However, the census indicates Harold is from Michigan, not IL. My father was born in April 1931 and my grandmother remarried around 1933. Harold may have gone on to have another family.
I have found LDS information, but it appears wrong for my grandmother's birthdate in regard to the marriage, and simply lists Michigan as place of marriage. If I could get a copy of the LDS source record, I might be able to do some additional research. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

I think I have your Florence and Harry/Harold-
going by what you said, I find Florence and husband in 1930. If I have the correct lds entry, you have Florence Sehr. That name connects back to dau Florence, whose parents in 1920 are Henry Sehr and Florence (mom) who do live in Chicago in 1920. At that time.. dau Florence IS shown as 8 yrs old.
swapping back.. is grandma Florence Clinton, who d. in St Clair in 1981? if yes, that works with 1 Oct 1912 for dob, which again is consistent with 1920 census.
Harry/ Harold Elliot (per lds) comes from Shelby, Michigan. This part is good. I found him in 1920 in that town. He lived with his mom Edna Elliott but head of house is grandma Eliza Juirk. He has siblings Edward Elliott and Eleanor. Mom says she is a widow. Eleanor is 7.. so dad Elliott seems to have died between 1912 - 1920.
Regarding LDS files.. there are actual extractions done by church members from original sources, but also FAMILY SUBMISSIONS. They remain like other user submissions- as good as the person who did the research. The documentation does NOT work for Florence's b date, but appears good for him. It seems to hint that someone from his side submitted the data.
last- this entry matches what the LDS has
HAROLD ELLIOTT 11 Nov 1907Jan 198549442 (Muskegon, Muskegon, MI)(none specified)378-10-9835Michigan
with that, you should be able to pick up on his death certificate.
I didn't work the marriage, but she WAS from Chicago and he was from Shelby, Michigan.
send me a note through my profile if you don't have access to the census images. I can't send an attachment through yahoo, will need direct email.
edit-
found him in 1910...dad is Aldie Elliott, age 20/ 1910. Still in Shelby, Michigan.

Hmmm...you're right on the edge of the public access to the records you need. The 72 year rule is backing you into a corner.

If you could email me the information you have on grandma, particularly her name, place of birth and date of birth, I can search both Cook County and Michigan records for you to see if the marriage record's available and if we can find records on grandpa from there. I'm too dubious about the lack of quality control on the LDS site to take them at face value. But if you can find solid information, we can find the real records. I live in Dearborn Heights, so there isn't much in the way of records in Michigan that isn't available within 20 minutes of me.
