I got the $399 PS3 for 60gb because my PS2 was busted (so I just went for the upgrade). I tried my PS2 and PS1 games and they didn't work. I read on AOL news that the reason why they could get it down to $399 was because it was not backwards compatible. Are there any updates I can do or some way I can make it compatible? Or am I gonna have to just get another PS2?

I got the $399 PS3 for 40gb (sorry i had put 60gb) because my PS2 was busted (so I just went for the upgrade). I tried my PS2 and PS1 games and they didn't work. I read on AOL news that the reason why they could get it down to $399 was because it was not backwards compatible. Are there any updates I can do or some way I can make it compatible? The 40GB PS3 that you got cannot play PS2 games but it should play PS1 games. I hate to put it this way, but you got the ONLY PS3 that can't play both PS1 and PS2 games. All of the other PS3's have backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games.

The 20GB and 60GB PS3's have the best backwards compatibility and can play almost all PS1 and PS2 games. The 80GB PS3 has backwards compatibility, it just can't play as many PS1 and PS2 games that the 20GB and 60GB PS3's.

You didn't buy the 60 gig because the 60 gig is not $399 it is $499 so you bought the 40 gig version for $399 .. THe 40 gig does not play ps2 games but plays ps1 games...

If you did buy the 60 gig U.S. version then you can play All ps2 and ps1 games without an update because it is hardware based backwards capable.....If you bought the 60 gig U.K. version then it plays ps2 game after you run the update...

OK, sorry for patronising, but are you sure that it is a 60GB? If it is a 40 GB, then you cannot play PS3 games end of. But, if you have a 60GB, you have to update your system. Go to this website if you are in the UK,

http://uk.playstation.com/helpsupport/ps3/guides/detail/item48612/

And when there, click download now. This is for hard disk updating. If you have Internet on your PS3 you can do it via that. Follow the instructions and you should be able to play PS3 games. Good luck :D
