If the reason for the slight was religious or lack of.

I do it all the time. I think everyone is entitled to their own opinions and when others attack them for it, regardless of their own beliefs, it's wrong and should be stopped.

I have done it a few times, if I believe the person is asking a question with honest intent.

I also see theists coming to the defense of Atheists often, but they tend to come from pagans more than other theists.

If I think someone is truly asking a question, instead of masking a statement in a question, I believe they deserve an honest answer.

Here, or real life? I don't really do defending, I prefer playing for the offense... I've stomped a few stupid questions from atheists.

In the real world, I've defended a theist... but I'm not sure if the attackers were atheists or not... (skinheads, not the nice kind).

I defend JW's against fundies all the time. I would defend Mike Tyson or Michael Vick against a fundie anytime

When someone lumps all Christians in with fundamentalists and zealots of old, I am quick to point out that mainstream Christians are not raving lunatics, and stoning and burning people at the stake are not common practices among the those of the internet community.

I see it very rarely around here. When an atheist makes a deliberately insulting or uninformed comment the other Atheists usually jump in and back him up.

I believe that your relationship with or without God should be personal until asked, even then don't cause bitterness over something we don't control. I look at it this way either you choose to obey God or deny him, once that is determined no human can change it.
