I would like to learn some sort of self-defense but also a tactical form of fighting. No heavy flip the person/ punch their lights out etc. due to the fact that i have some back problems. I have dance training--> something light on your feet. I've also read about this form of training using a staff, anything of the sort would be great. Thanks for following this stretched out description, but I'm ready for a self-disciplined form of fighting.

PS: I've tried capoeira and liked it a lot but there aren't many places that offer this in my area.

Wing chun was developed by a women and is great for females or smaller males.

I have also taken dance and I find Tai chi very flowing and elegant as you are interested in. The focus required to learn a form with 132 moves is also excellent training for the mind.

Just to comment on another answerer:
Full guard BJJ for women works well for triangles and arm bars from the guard because generally they have more hip/leg strength. Men have more upper body strength, so
side mount may be the better choice for the submission or choke.

Many Kung Fu martial arts have very flowing and dancing types of moves and might be easy to integrate for you. And regardless of what anyone might say, they have many practical moves that work in real fights.

I think Kick Boxing would be a little too much if you have back problems. However, if you keep at it and stay disciplined, you can even get over your back problem.
Bruce Lee wasn't even supposed to be able to run because of a back injury, but look at what he accomplished.
Also, recent research has show that working out in general is healthy for you because it increases blood flow to systems and helps improve many medical issues.

Capoeira is actually a dancing Brazilian martial arts style, so it definitely incorporates alot of finesse and grace in its execution of movements and techniques. However, I would probably recommend some of the "soft" arts styles of the orient, such as Tai Chi Chuan or even the martial arts version of Qigong (chigung). Both emphasize gentler, graceful movements that improve flexibility, dexterity, and internal health and power. There are a wide variety available, I hope you find one that suits your needs. Kudos on your pursuit of a fighting discipline.
