Most departments will not exclude you with a misdemeanor conviction, as long as you can possess a firearm.

They will look at what the conviction was for, and how long ago it was.

I have had prison guards on probation - even reporting to me in uniform, if you can believe that. It was for misd probations, however.

I would imagine that if it were a misdemeanor, and not one of family violence (which would keep a cop from having a firearm), then it would be up to the individual depts as to whether they would keep such a person...

If you have been on supervised probation for a felony, you can count out law enforcement as a career option in the USA.

Maybe you can check into law enforcement in Uganda.
