I want to take someone to go clay shooting in new jersey but i was never sure if i needed one or not

I would check with the Range first just to make sure. I was forced to dwell in NJ for 3 years I hated every last minute of it. I could not even look at a firearm in the store unless you had there stupid Firearms ID Card. Which took like 3 years to get. So I would double check with the range to make sure you are going to be on the up and up.

While your at it just move out of the Commie republic of Jersey. We will gladly take you in down here in VA asl long as you like guns and shooting.

No government sanctioned license, but some ranges require you to be a member (when renting their firearms) for insurance purposes. I would just give them a call and see what their policy is regarding use of their range and rentals.

No. You don't generally need a license unless you are carrying concealed (or your municipality requires one for ownership, like NYC). Since you are using range guns, or even borrowed guns, you are golden.

I know of no state that requires a permit or Firearms Owner ID card in order to use rental guns at a range.
