Hi, first off i have nothing against fat people. I was watching this show the other night about really fat ( young ) girls and boys who were doing rallys outside big brand stores asking for bigger size clothes.
But the way i look at it shouldnt that be a massage to you to lose weight

I agree. Once you can't find clothes in shops to fit you know you need to lose weight.

First: stores are just out there to make money so yeah

Secound: speaking as a bigger girl (I agree with the person above me about the $55 dollar shirt at Lane Bryant) they should carry (a little bit) bigger sizes as the average american woman wears a size 14 dress not 4.

Third: fashion ideals are fleeting. Marilyn Monroe herself fluctuated between a size 14 and 18 (dress).

I'm all for being healthy though I believe you can be "overweight" as well as underweight and not be healthy.

I don't think stores are (intentionally or not) sending a message that people need to gain or lose weight (they don't care as long as they get money) I mean, no matter how fat/skinny people are they have to have clothes (inless they want to get arrested)

Anyone who's out their trying to lose weight and be healthier keep fighting the fight. I know how you feel. AND to any skinny people out there who have NEVER been fat a day in your life don't hate on the "overweight or fat" people, you don't know what it's like to walk in their shoes.

First, people have to be motivated to lose weight. Second, they have to have parents who will buy the right food and abolish the wrong foods from the house; third, they have to have clothing in the meantime and they want ones that look good and are the current styles. Fast food has caused an obesity epidemic and a lot of time, it is not the children's fault - it is that of their parents. Once the weight is on, it is a huge battle to get it back off and most fail. Feel sympathy for these kids - they do not buy the groceries in their household and they do not want to be this way. Suppport every one of them who makes a statement they would like to lose weight. It takes a lot of internal fortitude to do this.

I suppose mangled cars and dead bodies should send a message to the drunks too. But does it?
Don't forget the fools that want to buy pants 8 sizes too big so their underwear or butt crack is showing and they look like they're carrying a couple dogs in the seat of their drawers.
Many people have weight problems because they've tried to fill emotional holes with food and have become addicted to food. Some had parents that abused, neglected or molested them. Some had no parents. The difficult thing about losing weight is you can't just stop eating. If you're a drunk, a drug user, or a smoker, you can stop cold turkey and be healthier for it. But people have to eat to live. Choosing wisely which food and how much to eat is a big challenge! And let's not forget the people who are very ill and their medications cause them to gain enormous amounts of weight. Perhaps retailers should consider the needs of all citizens and offer a wide selection of sizes to serve those needs..

Oh my god! How sad are you lot to sit here putting down people just because of their weight?
You don't know the reasons why some people are overweight, so therefore you have no right to judge them just because of their appearance.
If someone who is overweight wants to do something about it then they will, if they don't then thats non of your business what they do with their lifestyle. How would you feel if somebody judged you on your appearance? I don't think you'd like it very much would you and for all these people who've answered mocking overweight people then you lot have some serious growing up to be done. Sadoooos!

You really opened a can of worms with this one!

First of all, I consider myself fat, but I also have a medical condition and take medications that cause me to be this way. I eat strictly veggies and fruit and lean meats only. I also only drink water.

While I do agree the vast majority of people that are overweight are so because they do not diet and exercise properly, but people like myself should not have to squeeze in to clothes that don't fit.

And to the person who said we have "fat stores" to shop in...we have 1 or 2 compared to the millions that smaller people have. Also, stores like Lane Bryant sells shirts (1 flipping shirt!!!) for $50.00, while a smaller person can by a similar item at Target for $10.00!

You would think that the nations retailers would realize that the majority of people in this country are overweight, so you would think they would want to supply clothes to that majority. They wouldn't be "encouraging" fat people, they would be making more money, which in the end is all they care about.

Maybe all you jerks on here should not assume that the next fat person you see is lazy or has no motivation. Maybe you should just be a nice decent human being and not worry about them and worry about yourself. It just kills me how awful people are to one another!!!

How is this for a "massage"....Just because you are skinny, maybe you are dumber than the fat guy next to you. Just because you are skinny, maybe you have bad breath!

NO ONE IS PERFECT

I have nothing agains fat people myself. I am a bit overweight and I must admit the easier it is for me to get clothes the less I feel I have to lose weight. At the end of the day you want to be healthy and there is such a thing as too skinny. Let's just all try to be healthy and we will all be happy.

I agree, first of all there are special stores for big clothes (and you know if you have to go to a special store to get your clothes then you are too big) and 2nd, its an unhealthy lifestyle that shouldnt be accepted. America is becoming obese and we dont want to make it any worse♥

No, the job of the clothing industry is to clothe its customers. This industry should offer attractive clothes for all prospective customers. As for weight loss that is up to the customers themselves but everyone should have access to beautiful clothing. Besides, you can be overweight, lose a few lbs but still be overweight. Regardless, you need clothes to wear.

I agree if you can't fit into the clothes at a normal store you are too big and need to exercise and eat better. Sorry if it sounds mean but there should be no excuse for being that big.

My sister-in-law has cancer and she is on medication that has made her swell up at least 3 sizes more than she is. How do you know when someone has a real problem or not. Not nice to say mean things about overweight people, remember they can lose the weight but what can be done about rude people or are they past help.
