The One Who Deceives the Nations

"So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." (Revelation 12:9)

I've been studying deception lately...what it is, how it happens, how you escape it, etc. This particular verse is of certain interest. Isn't it interesting that the Devil is described as the one "who deceives the whole world"?

A lot of Christian teachers and authors talk about spiritual warfare, and get very mystical about it, speaking of angels and demons, principalities and powers, and the like. When many believers speak of the devil attacking them, they speak of sickness, financial woes, car trouble, bad weather, and relational conflict. But according to the verse above, the Devil's schemes are not that mystical, nor is he ultimately interested in our bodies, cars, or bank accounts. If he is "the one who deceives the world," then what is he really interested in? Our minds. When he attacks us, where does he attack us? Between the ears in our minds. He wants you and I to think incorrectly.

Therefore, our war with the devil is a battle of truth versus lies! This is why Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." This is why He said in John 8:32, "You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." The Holy Spirit "guides us into all truth" (John 16:13).

Jesus told us that "all authority in heaven and on earth has been given unto Me" (Matthew 28:18). If this is true, that Jesus has all authority, then how much does that leave the Devil?

None.

Then why are there so many defeated Christians?

The Devil is Liar.

The only power he has over you and I is the degree of the lie that we have believed!

"Strongholds" has been a buzzword in the spiritual warfare movement for years. They say there are strongholds over this city and that nation, etc. Again, we drift to the mystical. But the Scriptures clearly define what a stronghold is in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5: "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. We are destroying speculation, and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ."

Strongholds are: "speculations," false "knowledge," and "thoughts." Again, the warfare is in the mind, and for the mind. It is all about what you believe or don't believe! That's why the Scriptures call Christians believers!

Ed Silvoso, author of That None Should Perish, put it this way: "A stronghold is a way of thinking, impregnated with hopelessness, contrary to the Word of God."

Deception is the 1 battle that every Christian must win. It is crucially important that we read the Word of God, understand the Word of God, and believe the Word of God, for your degree of victory is directly proportional to how much you know the Truth.

May the Holy Spirit reveal to us today if there be any stronghold in our minds that keeps us living defeated in any area of our lives. You are free in Christ!

Truth stands eternally. The Lord established it in the heavens before time began and it remains constant. What we believe may be something completely different but it does not change the reality of Truth. Therefore, we must learn the Truth and stand in it regardless of the how things "appear" to be. How tragic that the children of the Most High God should be trapped in the satan's quagmire of lies when the victory our Savior has given us is available moment by moment simply by the receiving of the Truth. The devil comes "to kill, steal and destroy", but all he has to fight with is deception. Abundant life is ours now and forever because Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. ALL authority in heaven and earth is His; therefore, we must go and proclaim it - first to ourselves, then to the whole world. Truth will always trump the lie.

One moon? One which orbits earth. Many, many more elsewhere.

One sun? Again, earth centric. There is a whole universe out there.

One day. One night? Tomorrow is another day.

One truth? Perhaps for you. Try a wider perspective.

I believe in one true God. He is three Gods. The Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. I suspect truth falls in the same boat.

Is it true or false? It is a mystery. It is the Pascal Mystery.

The King James Bible teaches us in Ephesians 4:6, "One God and Father of all, who (is) above all, and through all, and in you all." So, that answers your question, I suppose......
