Brown spots? That doesnt sound good! I wouldnt take the chance, sorry but just toss it.

The color changes do not bother me. Leaving it out at rrom temp "for a few hours" does.
If a few hours is less than 2, you can safely cook it.
If it's more than 2 hours, be safe and pitch it. No fun to be sick during the holidays!

Yes the spots of brown are just from the air getting to it. As long as there are no foul odors coming from it, it should be fine.

Play it safe and throw it out. It's all fun and games until you're sick as a dog. Toss it and get some fresh meat to replace it.
