Should schools require students to wear uniforms?

i think schools shouldn't require students to wear uniforms b/c the best way for someone to express them selves is what they wear. I know that schools say "if everyone's wearing the same thing then everyine is equal " which isnt true some students uniform amy be cleaner or newer than others. So no i don't think students should wear uniforms.

I can go either way on the issue, and I certainly believe it wouldn't hurt to give youngsters some kind of structure, which, if the media is to be believed, is sorely lacking.

Considering that students have been suspended for wearing cartoon character socks (I'm still reeling from that one!), et al., perhaps it would be best to eliminate all potential forms of self-expression, and make the kids realize that we are all the same (it's up to you as to whether you see sarcasm in that statement).

Not if they are public schools since students usually do not have a choice of public schools and that would make uniforms mandatory with no option not to have them./

I don't think so, because people have a right to express their individual style through their clothing. Plus some styles and colors look awful on some people and that's not really fair to self-conscious preteens or teens. Some styles also feel uncomfortable to some people (for instance, some people hate the feeling of a turtleneck or tights.)
