I will be attending this crazy event for the first time! Any advice? How do people typically dress to ring in the new year at this historical location? 2008 glasses? Necklaces? Are earplugs really reccomended???

Hina- I am subleasing an apartment that I found on craigslist a few weeks ago. It is on the upper east side. Check it out, there still might be some places available and they are more reasonable than hotels.

Just dress warm, take a thermos of hot chocolate, and enjoy.

I have been there 15 straight years, and have never had a bad time.

Forget the ear plugs, just have fun.

Carry your wallet in an inside pocket, under your coat.

Do NOT put anything you can't afford to lose, in your pocket.
Pick-pockets will be out this time of year looking for tourists that keep a wallet in a rear pants pocket. Put it in your girlfriend's or wife's purse. Wear your warmest coat.

Dress for cold weather tonight. It's chilly today and will be colder tonight.

I have never known anyone to use earplugs, if you need them, use them. Do not carry valuables with you.
Pick-pockets can spot you 12 blocks away!

Make a dinner reservation. Leave your hotel early and take a taxi to your dinner destination and back to your hotel.
Taxi's are expensive!

Again: be aware of pickpockets. If you ride the bus, there may be pickpockets on the bus, this time of year, ready to relieve you of your money, house keys, hotel keys, wallet and anything of value.

If you feel someone on the bus jostle and get close to you, immediately move out of his/her way, as it may be a pick-pocket.

Dress according to how comfortable you want to be. It is currently 37 degrees in NYC and will be MUCH colder tonight. Dress warmly.

If you are going to dinner before The Time's Square New Year's, make sure you have a reservation for a particular restaurant. If you are going to dinner after the event, make sure you have a reservation.

With tens of thousands in the city for this event, you will NEED a dinner reseration tonight, dine early.

Have fun and don't become a pick-pocket victim.

Subway: Unless you are very familiar with the NYC subway system, this will NOT be a night for you to experiment.

Budget Hotels:

You need: Warm Gloves, Hat/Cap Shoes with a thick sole/hiking boots/LongJohns/etc/

The Time's Square New Years's is a great event.
I remember my Times Square New Year.
