Make a plan - pay off your bills, save your vacation time then plan for a month-long trip to go places. If you cannot afford this length of time, combine 4 days together every few months and go to a destination of your choice to explore the world. Your mother will be fine with you being gone for short periods of time. Most people at age 21 cannot afford to not work and travel the world. We have all had this idealistic dream at some time in our earlier years but reality takes over. Just don't give up on your dream, just do it in smaller increments. You will never regret the money spent on smaller excursions.

I guessed from the start that you were in your young 20's. Your feelings are not unusual for your stage in life. Being in your position of life is one reason young males join the military.
Steady pay, something to do, someplace to go, education and training all paid for, adventure whether for a few years or for a career. Great benefits. Respect. See the world. Driving, flying, skydiving, oceans, cities, islands.....
They'll make a man of you.

ok--no one can make a change but you. if you hate your job--quit and find one you like. your mother will get over it. she's an adult and has to realize that you have your own life to lead.
