It was a war the Democrats started, JFK, LBJ and Nixon ended it, it was a political nightmare for both of those DEM'S. The Vietnam war was like fighting fire ants in Texas you can't win for loosing. Economically it kept a lot dads in a job, airplanes, trucks etc.. Socially, when have people/morons come out of the wood work like, Jane Fonda, John Kerry and others that had no respect for their fellow human-beings. You show up at the airport are ask to put street cloths on, and that your uniform might cause a problem. Now some of the same people/morons are eletced to congress, the senate ect. These morons make statements that this war is like Vietnam, BS, their will never be another war like Vietnam. The politicians wouldn't lets us win that war. The bombings in December of 1972 should have never stop, the fact is N. Vietnam couldn't have stood anymore of the bombings from the B-52's, when your dropping 500 & 750 pounders for 11 striaght days, that is why they went back to Peace tables. N. Vietnam had nothing left to throw at us, so we stop the bombings so they could rebuild again, big mistake. So in 1975 the U.S. let the North take over S. Vietnam, end of storie. Now just a page in a history book. God bless the familes of the 58,000 that died over there. I was lucky I came home, to have only a bad nightmare...

Political impact was no politician wanted to handle it because the American people had little faith in the military after TET showed the people here in the states that the Vietnam war was not being won as the President and high ranking military leaders had them try to believe. Economically it cost the United States a fortune.

The Vietnam war was ugly, terrible and unnecessary. The democrats got us into that mess, and LBJ made a fortune in graft from arms makers. Bitches and whores like Hanoi Jane Fonda and John Kerry aided the enemy with their whining and un-American actions. If you must watch a movie to learn about it, Hamburger Hill is about the best one to get the feel of it all.

The South East Asian Conflict was about 16 years in the making. I suggest you watch Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Good Morning Vietnam and Apocalypse Now. Oh, and the Deer Hunter. That will answer every question, though it may be too late for your homework after you've taken time out to watch the movies.

Drafted 68 Infantry 101st Airborne Division Hue Phu Bai Camp Evans. I was lonely, no fun, snakes, viet Cong, booby traps, monsoon rains, cold in the Annasese mountains, fear, death, friendship, letters from home, body bags, pain, thoughts of how mom and dad, wife, sister, brother would mourn when i came back dead, night ambush, air strikes, why did i come here?

The question my dear is what happened to the poor suckers as myself who answered the call to duty when thousands went to Canada. Our own President Bill Clinton dodged the draft but did not mind send thousands off to combat.

Before you start go out and read David Halberstam's 'The Best and the Brightest'. That will give you a foundation to start evaluating your reading on the war's various effects.

You have to understand how we got into it first.
