It's completely up to the couple whether they want a long engagement or not. Everyone wants something different that fits their situation. Personally, my fiance and I will be engaged for about a year and half before we get married, but we're only waiting so long because we're having a baby in the interim. Good luck.

What ever answer you decide is the right one. There is no set time limit however, I think when you get engaged you should already know this person is right for you. Before the wedding financial and ceremonial arrangements should be made. Although, people who are engaged for ten years probably do not want to really get married they are using the promise of marriage to secure a relationship.

My rule is no longer than 6 months. 3-4 months is Ideal.

Take a long time dating and getting to know each other, then have a short engagement. If you haven't decided that you are ready to get married- then why get engaged. You should have that all worked out by that time. Dating is to figure out whether you are ready to marry each other or not- engagement is committing that you are ready and planning on getting married.

I also don't believe in living together before you are married- a shorter engagement makes that possible.

I believe it just depends on the couple. I know people that were only engaged for a few months and immediately got married. I have been engaged for year, and we're getting married in March of 08. So, it just depends on when the couple decides they are ready emotionally, and financially.

However long they want to be engaged.

You should be engaged long enough to have saved up for your big day.

it is up to the couple , and how long you want to wait , about 8mounts to 1 year i would think after he proposed he would be ready to make plans for the wedding, well just set a date , if you wait to long , it is really just a promise ring , just my option , every one i know was only engaged for like no longer 7 months the got married
