We have discovered that our baby is very allergic to our cat and we need to get rid of it. She is 5 years old and very sweet, her name is Mrs. Sweets. We don't know anyone who wants a cat and do not want to give her to the pound. We would prefer to give her to an animal adoption agency that keeps them until they find a home. Please help?

It's very obvious that you are not a parent Robbo.

if there is a PetSmart in your area try them. they usually have a drop off in the store. you may have to pay 30 bucks to spay or neuter but they will take it and most stay in the store until someone adopts them.

Call the ASPCA. They may have suggestions. Also talk to your vet. They also may help. They have people who lose cats from disease, old age or other and may want to adopt.

Is there any way you can isolate baby and cat? It seems such a shame that you should lose a pet like that who will grow up with your baby. Cat has about 9 to 11 years of life, more if well cared for.

Cats hate change. Hopefully you can find a good home. But do try to resolve cats situation with you first.

call your vet and ask them. i would not keep the cat if the baby is allergic. we are learning more and more about allergies everyday and the long term health problems they can cause. i wouldn't chance it , as much as I love animals. i wouldnt give an infant allergy med or try to treat the allergies just to keep the cat. i really feel for you as it's got to be a hard decision. the vet should know of good shelters. many people do want to adopt or foster animals. many people do prefer to get a cat that is trained as yours is / and would be thrilled to have a new addition to their home.

Its hard to find a no-kill shelter anymore, and with the holiday season, many shelters aren't taking in animals over the age of 'baby' because of the surplus of unwanted animals received over the past few days.

I would say going on to Craigslist [you can Google it] and picking your location and putting up an ad for her. Include a picture as well.

The pound may be your only option.

Since we have NO idea where you live, or if you've done any online searches for pet rescue, cat foster homes, cat rehab or small shelters run by cat lovers, and don't know if you've asked any friends if they could take the cat in---what do you expect us to do?

Don't offer on Craig's list, or on Freecycle, you don't know if people who have pit bulls are looking to get any 'free' animals as fighting fodder for their dogs. Be responsible and don't put out ads for a free cat to good home. There are too many pets who are taken by the dog fighting groups, by people who torture animals, by people with large boas and pythons looking for free food, and now with Hmong and Camobdian immigrants in many city areas, people who eat cats and dogs they get for 'free' since they're used to doing it in their country.

check the Petfinder.com and do a search in your area. You can also ad your cat in Kijiji.com

This is sad you have to give her away. However, I understand that the baby is number 1. Good luck

Please look at the cats protection league. They are specifically for cats and will try to do all they can to re home the cat to someone who suits the cats nature. I have adopted cats from them and they come round to check that all is well after the adoption

Just take it to the vet. Most vets will either take them in or they will put it down for you.

Go to www.petfinder.com if you are in the U.S. You can find all the shelters in your area. Call them up, ask their relinquishment, adoption and euthanasia policies and ask if space is available. Find one you are comfortable with for your cat and go for it.

You don't say where you're located. On the computer, do a search...enter "no kill cat shelters" or "no kill cat shelters california" or whatever state you're in, or a nearby state. Please make sure you take to a GOOD no kill shelter. Good Luck!!!
