Why would you give your money to a pastor who only would use it to buy a bigger house, or fancier car or more expensive clothes and jewlery, when there are those who live on the street who can't even afford a meal. Why wouldn't you donate all your tithe to the needy and not to the greedy?

Let me put it this way: The Bible says if you tithe you will be blessed. My father has always paid tithes for as long as I can remember- although they did not become Christians and start attending church until after I was born. Our family has NEVER went without- my father makes more in retirement than I do working- as a school teacher. My point is my parents have always put their faith in God and have done what they feel He wants them to do. I have seen how very blessed my entire family has been. By the way, like I said, I teach school- so I am no longer a child. I no longer attend the same church as my parents, I believe different than how I was raised- but tithing with the right heart- will bring rewards so you can help others more than you imagined.

You can do whatever you like with your tithe. You should support your building and grounds and outreach ministries, plus they do have a paid staff. Most churches, the overwhelming majority, no one is getting rich. There are well publicized exceptions, and they give all of them a bad name.

But as to your question, I believe the Lord would be pleased with you if you gave 1/10 of your increase to the needy.

Unless you are Abraham, or you can find a Levitical Priest, there is not much use in tithing, as it is not biblical. We are to support one another, help the poor, and as a congregation, maintain the church. Tithing is only for those who believe that it still applies today. Which it doesn't. However, you are free to give, if you really want to, but you are under no such compulsion.

I believe that giving is a way for Christians to share the blessing they have received from on high with those who need God's blessings in their life.
Tithing, in modern times, takes on more than just 10% of your gross income as it was set forth in the Mosiac Law.

Today, giving includes money to church needs (and yes the church usually owns a house for the pastor but I like you would question tons of money being spent on the house of a man and not the flock of God),

giving of our time towards charitable works including helping the homeless, the needy, the orphans and widows, the downtrodden, the "least of these of Christ's brothers"

giving of ourselves in the ministry of the gospel and spreading the gospel with those that do not know God and face eternal seperation from Him.

So it's not just about the money.

The tithing we donate doesnt go to the pastor....ours are not paid, they are bishops/pastors and also work as well. And the money we give goes to do many good things like build churches, help with programs the church offers for people in need, etc. So I feel good about paying my tithing. I'm sure there are pastors who do keep the money and that does seem wrong to me, it should definetely be used for good.

In our church, the tithe money goes to pay for expenses, just like we all have....mortgage, utilities, etc. Our pastor doesn't have a big house or fancy car. Sounds like you need to find another church. We help those in need through a food bank or food certificates to the local grocery.

The money I give in offering, does not line the Pastor's pocket. He makes a modest salary, drives a used car, lives in a ranch house. Our offerings pay the utilities, mortgage, insurance, and other expenses to run a Church. 10-15% of our offerings go to various charities every month. We also offer low cost non-perishable goods to the underpriviledged families in our area.

tithing is not for the pastors to buy bigger houses, if they do, u are tithing to the wrong church, that money is primary for the church, rental of the church if they are holding it in a ballroom, staff wages, instrumental maintenance and stuffs like that, for the pastors house, they should sow their own seed and wait for God to bless them with one.

In my congregation, we have several ministries that require money to reach people. My pastor drives a very late model car. Why do you judge people you don't even know?
