I would like everyone who thinks its fear to actually read a book about the "fight flight or freeze response" because your giving very invalid information. Everyone has covered the answer pretty well. Except that these days it is "Fight, Flight or Freeze" Some people just freeze up when confronted, Even trained fighters. My favorite example is when a 16 year BJJ practitioner was beaten to a pulp by a medium sized 16 year old. The practitioner did not lift his hands or step away or even grab the child he just froze up and went to the ground. Some people can be excellent fighters in a sanctioned place but on the street there wads of cookie dough But @Byron. I would love to see your sources that it is pure fear. Because it is 100% not(Also you were thinking of shock not fear). I get the same feelings before a non sanctioned fight, My legs feel like jello during that "Yell and push alpha stage" but as soon as I get hit or land one, I feel fantastic, Because personally I can not handle confrontation but once it begins I am fine. I guess you live in a big town coming from an adult perspective if word got around you just toke **** when your outnumbered every time well the town itself would not be safe to walk in for you 12 yr old little punks would try and rob you(I have seen it happen). Sometimes you got to know when to Hold'em :P You can spar and condition yourself as much as you like. For most people a street fight is so different no amount of training(Including professional sanctioned fights) can prepare you for what feelings go through your body.

If you mean feeling physically weak, then it doesn't matter whether you win or lose a street fight, the moment adrenaline starts to drain and fade away after a fight, you will start to feel weak and your knees will tend to shake from fatigue. Taking deep breaths and a glass of water usually remedies this.

Whatever happened to the person who "won" the street fight? I think that no one ever wins in a street fight. But in competition, I usually have extra adrenaline flowing through my body that makes me have a perception of having more energy than the "loser." But when I lose, It's harder for me to hold my head up higher than the winner. But since we fought in the same area, at the same time, both competitors are just as tired as the other.

I've never lost a street fight. When I was younger, I would find myself in street fights. In that time, 99% of the opponents were inexperienced wild wide punching dummys. Nowadays you have more and more non-martial artist picking up UFC/MMA and starting to learn. So who knows, I might lose one soon, but I wouldn't feel week just humbled.

You should for getting your emotion control you into a fight.
Fighting in a ring or sanctioned event is a whole different story. I respect those people, not street brawlers.

More importantly did you learn anything.?
The man standing at the pinnacle of succes is standing on a pile of past mistakes each of which taught him a valuable lesson.
