To beat your wife is wrong. It is against modern laws. I know some people beat their wives in pakistan, Saudi arabia. It is better if you divorce your wife.

In the USA, we have a clause in our Constitution that requires the seperation of church (Islam, Christianity, Judism) and state (the government). This means that the government, in most cases, does not follow the rules found in religious texts, such as the Quran, Bible, or Torah. So in this case, the government, via the Constituion, has made it a crime to violently harass someone, which includes domestic violence (such as beating a spouse). This is legal because per the Constitution, the government has the right to ban things which are harmful to public safetly, such as violence.
So this is not religious discrimination. There was a Supreme Court case, I forget which one, which dealt with this issue. The court ruled that laws cannot specifially hinder a religion. The government has made domestic violence a crime not because it wants to harm Islam, but because it is dangerous to the public.
I hope this helps. I understand that moving from a fiercly theocratic system to one where religion does not play as important a role is a major culture shock. But welcome to the United States, I hope you enjoy it.

I believe that just like the Bible, the Quran can be in some cases misinterpreted. Do YOU want to beat your wife? Personally, I think my wife is my best friend, provider of my sons/daughters, bodyguard, nurse, & a lot more. Why would I want to beat her up? Besides, would you like a man to beat your daughter, regardless of what your religion allows? I don't think is a matter of discrimination here, it's discrimination THERE.

All things human have errors. The transcription of gd's word was flawed. We have evolved since the seventh century, we all have, and our religions need to evolve with us.
You need to abide by the stronger/more restrictive of the laws that we live under. If the more restrictive is that you cannot abuse your wife, then you must live by that, instead of the male-indulgent rules of your religion.
Plus, the Quran says you MAY beat your wife, while the law of the land says you MUST NOT. Again, the stronger wording.
Is it really religious discrimination to allow a woman to live without the fear of unjust beatings? come on...this is one of the problems with our living together, isn't it?

Can your wife also beat you if you are disobedient?
If not, Isn't that discrimination in Quran?
As David C says Individual freedom (your wife's freedom) comes first before religious freedom.

We have based most of our laws on the right of the individual first, and protection against oppression by forces which can be unjust for no good reason. In the USA we support freedom of religion, but that does not mean all things in a religious text are free to be practiced. This is why many people will not leave countries that support they ideas you speak of.

Well if you wish to beat a woman sir, as another man I would have to call you a filthy pig. If you wish to come to texas and have a fair altercation with another man I would be happy to accomodate you. As far as religious discrimination--your wife is lucky she is in America-wife beating is not recognized here for any religion--so it is not discrimination--all religions are treated equally in this respect.

I agree!
Oh! By the way, my religion says that if YOU do beat your wife, your neighbor can shoot you between the eyes!
I assume this is OK in your religion as well. We can't have discrimination here. Right?

Who is "Parise?" Your stupid, misogynistic "holy book" is superceded by just, secular laws in the U.S. that do not condone spouse beating. I still don't get why Muslim women stay in a faith that regards them as second-class citizens at best, and less than human compared to their male counterparts at worst.
