Photographer's prices vary greatly, esp depending on the area you live in. When I looked at different photographers, this is *generally* what I found to be true:
-Under $1000 is very basic - low quality; don't expect any extras or major creativity. Standard posed pictures. Probably has not had any formal training or much experience.
-$1200-$2500 is a good middle ground. You'll find experienced photographers with creativity & a good eye. They will probably use a 'photojournalistic' approach which has become very popular. It means less posey pictures more of capturing the day as it occurs; some posed pictures but they look more natural.
-Anything above $3000 to me is just ridiculous unless it includes absolutely everything (proofs, unlimited time, albums, engagement session, etc.) These photographers will definately have their own style of photography; very creative; highest quality.
**Your best bet is to search photographers in your area & compare what they charge to what they offer (as far as packages). I live in the Atlanta area & found an extremely talented photographer for $1695. Don't go overboard in this area but don't skimp either...after your wedding day ends you'll only have the pictures left! Good luck

Honestly you get what you pay for with photographers. A professional is giving you more than just his time on the wedding day - they're editing your images, designing your album, and directing your photosession to run smoothly and on schedule. A friend however how well meaning just won't be able to do this out of the gate.
Check out our video for more on why you should invest in a professional photographer:

depends on the quality you want. Really awesome photographers run 3-4 thousand. Mine were 2500 and he was a really good one but i didn't get as many prints or as nice of an album...so. just look online. a lot of photographers will list their prices on their site or you can email them and ask them.

i know in florida and rhode island for before the wedding ie getting dressed at home at the church candid photos and posed after the church and at the reception and trash the dress after the wedding you are looking at 1500.00-2,500.00 and that is also a album and profs and a cd with about 150 to 250 photos

they are very expensive. you should just go online and make appts to meet with people. I would suggest going with someone that does it on the side opposed to a big company-the pics are just as good and they dont charge you ridiculous fees. For a good package deal, I would say about 1700 is the average price. that should include all day coverage, a wedding album a wall portrait and all your pics on a CD. Dont let them scam you, and make sure you ask if the pics your getting on the CD are high resolution not low res. Dont be afraid to ask questions if your unsure about something. the pictures are the most important aspect of your wedding I think. Make sure they are taken right. Good luck!
